Strengthening people’s identification process.Multi-factor authentication

With the aim of avoiding the impersonation of people’s identity due to the loss or theft of their access credentials, and in accordance with the information security policy (PSI) of the University of Girona, and the ENS.The University of Girona will progressively implement the use of multifactor mechanisms for validating credentials when accessing the most sensitive applications.

The use of multifactor authentication will mean that the user name and password is not enough to be identified, and a second factor will be required to check. This second factor may be:

  • A single-use token that the person will obtain with an OTP application (One-Time Password). The use of Microsoft Authenticator is recommended.
  • Accreditation with any of the systems supported by VALID: recognised certificate, IDCat Mòbil, Cl@ve PIN, DNIe.

Having both options is recommended: token and VALID in order to guarantee the authentication of the person in the event of a failure or loss of one of the two options. [More information]

Loss of a connection and the resulting services

When a person loses a link because they have finalised their relationship with the University of Girona, they will lose the services they obtained through this link, and no other active link will be provided for them. The loss of services will not take immediate effect the day following the end of the link, but a period of grace will be established so that the person has time to extend their link or to safeguard the information contained in the services they are set to lose.

In general, the links will have a 90-day period during which the person may continue to use the services they had while managing the extension of their link or safeguarding the information deposited in the services they will lose.

Whenever a person is granted a period of grace for a lost connection, an email will be sent to the person informing them that they have lost their link, stating which services they will lose if they do not renew their connection, and on which date the service will be lost. This email will be sent every month until the end of the period of grace.

Associations that have no period of grace will be those that are temporary in nature or are linked to a service supply contract, such as for those attending conferences or congresses or the connection of service providers.
