Competences
Competences conferred by article 109.1 of the University of Girona Statutes:
- Exercise the global management of the University of Girona and represent it institutionally, judicially, and administratively in all kinds of legal acts. For the exercise of this representation, a mandate may be given.
- Appoint and stand down members of the Government Team and coordinate their activities and policies.
- Appoint academic posts and single-person bodies.
- Issue official and in-house university degrees.
- Appoint and hire teaching and research staff and technical, management, administrative, and service staff at the University of Girona.
- Authorise expenses and order payments.
- Promote the main pillars of university policy and define the fundamental guidelines of the strategic planning of the University of Girona.
- Develop the lines of action approved by the corresponding collegiate bodies and implement their agreements, especially with regard to the programming and development of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and exchange, management of economic and personal resources, internationalisation, community and social commitment, university culture and promotion and institutional relations.
- Appoint the representatives of the University of Girona in the various bodies, entities, and institutions in which the University of Girona has representation.
- Resolve disciplinary procedures.
- Exercise all other powers arising from the position attributed by current legislation or that these statutes have not attributed to other bodies.
In addition, the Rector will hold responsibility over the space and infrastructure policy at the University of Girona.
Biography
Josep Calbó Angrill is a full professor of Physics at the University of Girona. With a degree in Physical Sciences from the UB and a PhD in Sciences from the UPC, he has a career spanning over 25 years in teaching, research and academic management.
He has been a post-doctorate researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA), and visiting researcher in other institutions of the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Russia.He has led projects on climate change and air quality, from the UdG Environmental Physics Group, of which he is a member.He focuses his Research and Investigation on solar radiation in the atmosphere and the interactions between radiation, cloudiness, and aerosols.
In teaching, he has taken Physics Foundations courses from various Engineering studies.He has also been head of the subject of Meteorology and Climatology in the study of Environmental Sciences.At postgraduate level, he has participated in doctorate courses and especially Master’s degrees, at the University of Girona itself (Master’s in Environment, Master’s in Environmental Change: analysis and management and Socioecological Transition), and at the University of Barcelona (Master’s in Ecology, Management and Restoration of the Natural Environment) and at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Master’s in Environmental Engineering).
He is a member of the Expert Group on Climate Change in Catalonia, chair of the Advisory Council for the Meteorological Department of Catalonia and a member of the Institute of Catalan Studies.He has been director of the Institute of the Environment at the UdG, vice-president of Research and Transfer, and vice-president of Strategic Projects and Internationalisation.
