How to get to Girona

The city of Girona is in the north-east of Catalonia (latitude 41.59º north and longitude 2.49º east), a short distance from the French border. The city is very well placed within Europe, as it is near the main motorways, railways and airports.

The road network around Girona, which follows the ancient Roman roads, includes the main national motorways, connecting with France and the rest of the principality with the motorways AP-7, A-2 and C-25 (Transverse Axis). Many regular bus routes stop in the city and connect with the other cities in Catalonia as well as routes to other European cities. The car-sharing service Fes-edit is available to the UdG community for getting to the university campuses.

Girona also has a good rail network, with medium-distance regional trains and high speed trains (AVANT) connecting it with the city of Barcelona in 38 minutes. Likewise, the AVE line connects Girona with different cities in Spain and Europe, with all the advantages that high speed travel implies in terms of distances and travelling times. As a result of an agreement between the UdG and RENFE, members of the university community using conventional trains to get to the UdG enjoy season-ticket advantages which you can check out here. As for AVANT trains, RENFE offers Plus 10 season tickets for university students. For more information check out the RENFE website.

Girona-Costa Brava airport is 12 kilometres from the centre and can be easily accessed by transport public (http://sagalesairportline.com/horaris-i-preus/g2irona ). It connects the city with many destinations in Europe and Spain. For further information see: https://www.aena.es and https://www.girona-airport.net/. The Barcelona (El Prat) airport is about an hour from the city of Girona. Trains run from El Prat airport to Barcelona-Sants train station every 15 minutes. There is also a bus service between Barcelona airport and Girona.

Getting to the different UdG campuses is easy. You can get there by taxi (https://www.gitaxi.cat/), by bus, or on foot as it’s a small city. Girona has several urban bus lines that connect any point in the city with the University campus. Line 7 provides access to the Barri Vell Campus, while the Montilivi and Centre Campuses can be accessed directly from the station using line 8  or line 11 , which run at 15-minute intervals. UdG students are entitled to a discount with the “Come to the UdG by bus” scheme, offering highly advantageous prices (€0.30/journey) for all the urban TMG lines.

The Government of Catalonia has a website that facilitates mobility for the individuals concerned, with every existing means of public transport in Catalonia: the Get around through Catalonia by public transport website. And the UdG has its own à la carte mobility website that enables specifically planning travel on public transport plan from any town in the UdG area to the UdG's campus.
