Xavier Pla

Professor of Contemporary Catalan Literature and Theory at the University of Girona. He has been a visiting lecturer at theÉcole des Hautes Études en Sciences Socials de París (2006), at Stanford University, California (2008) and at Chicago University (2013-2014). He received his PhD in Literature from the Université de Paris-Sorbonne (Paris-IV) in 1996 for a thesis on the concept of autofiction in the work of the writer Josep Pla, published under the title Josep Pla, ficció autobiogràfica i veritat literària (Quaderns Crema, 1997).

Specialising in the study of the work of Josep Pla, he published Pla's correspondence with his brother in Cartes a Pere  (Cartes a Pere, Destino, 1996) and with Eugeni Xammar (Eugeni Xammar, Cartes a Josep Pla i altres cartes i documents, Quaderns Crema, 2001), and also curated the facsimile edition of El primer quadern gris. Dietaris 1918-1919 (Destino, 2004).

In December 2012, he won the XVII Octavi Pellissa prize for his project to write a biography of Josep Pla. He was awarded the National Culture Prize in 2015.

To ensure follow-up on the Chair a Joint Monitoring Committee was created, made up of a representative of Ediciones Destino-Grupo 62, Anna Aguiló (director of the Josep Pla Foundation) and Xavier Pla (UdG).

The Chair’s Advisory Board has eight members, who represent the institutions involved: Grup 62, the Josep Pla Foundation and the University of Girona. There is also a place for experts linked to other institutions, who stand out for their specialisation and knowledge of Josep Pla's work.

The Chair is linked to the Department of Philology and Communication, and is managed by the office of the secretary for the Institute of Catalan Language and Culture.

The Josep Pla Chair also maintains close relations with collaborating researchers (philologists, historians, critics, etc.) who specialise in the work of Josep Pla, and with contemporary Catalan writers.

Team

Marta Callavé

Bachelor's degree in Catalan Philology. Since 2016, she has been collaborating with the Chair in the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Francesc Montero

She holds a PhD in Catalan Philology and a Bachelor's Degree in Catalan and Hispanic Philology, and is currently a research technician and project manager at the Institute of Catalan Language and Culture (University of Girona).

Her doctoral thesis was an intellectual biography of journalist Manuel Brunet i Solà, which has been published in an abridged form entitled Manuel Brunet. El periodisme d’idees a l’ull de l’huracà (Afers, 2016). She edited an informative edition of Josep Pla’s El carrer Estret in collaboration with Neus Vergés (2012).

Together with Xavier Pla, she also edited the book A l'ombra de Josep Pla. Cinc escriptors-periodistes gironins de la República (2012), the result of an exhibition of the same title. Moreover, she has at various times collaborated with the Josep Pla Foundation.

David Portillo

Pre-doctoral researcher under contract, with a degree in Catalan Language and Literature. He collaborates with the Chair in the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Judit Pujol

Pre-doctoral researcher under contract, with a degree in Catalan Language and Literature. He collaborates with the Chair in the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Àlvaro Muñoz Hernàndez

Holds a Bachelor's Degree in Catalan Language and Literature, and is a collaboration grantholder. He collaborates with the Chair in the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

OCCASIONAL COLLABORATORS

Jordi Amat

Is a writer and philologist. He trained at the University of Barcelona's Biographical Studies Unit, and is a contributor to 'Cultura/S', the La Vanguardia . newspaper's weekly cultural supplement. He has edited works by Catalan and Spanish writers - Benet, Candel, Gaziel, Pla, Cela, Foxá, Ridruejo and Valverde - and is the author of award-winning essays on intellectual life during the Franco regime (such as Las voces del diálogo) and has written biographies, of Luis Cernuda and Ramon Trias Fargas for example.

Lluís Bonada

A writer, journalist and biographer, he has published numerous volumes and studies focused on the work of Josep Pla. He collaborated with the Chair in the training session "Josep Pla’s Change of Style", part of the online training programme 'Josep Pla, Journalist and Writer' (2021) and collaborates on newspaper articles.

Jordi Canal

Catalan historian and lecturer at the École des Hautes Études en Sciencies Sociales in Paris, author of the prologue to El pagès i el seu món (2014).

Narcís Comadira

Writer and artist. He wrote the prologue for the reprint of Girona, un llibre de records (2012).

Jordi Cornudella

Poet and Editor linked to Grup 62. He takes care of the editorial process in the publication of Josep Pla's books in Catalan at theeditorial Destino. Apart from this task, he has taken part in various activities organised by the Chair, and collaborates on tasks related to the localisation and revision of texts by Josep Pla.

Francisco Fuster

Collaborates with the Chair on the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Narcís Garolera

Doctor in Catalan Philology and full professor of language and literature at the Pompeu Fabra University. Curator of the critical edition of El quadern gris (2012).

Guillem Molla

Doctor in Catalan Philology and lecturer at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, USA), he has collaborated on several occasions with the Josep Pla Chair, participating in activities and conferences and editing the collection of letters between Josep Pla and Jaume Vicens Vives entitled ‘L'hora de les decisions’.

Meritxell Lafuente

Graduated from the University of Girona in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Catalan Philology. She studied for a Master's Degree in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature (University of Barcelona, 2013) and then for a Master's Degree in Secondary School Teacher Training (University of Girona, 2014).

She has collaborated with the Chair on the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Manuel Llanas

Doctor in Catalan Philology. Editor of the book Estimat amic. Correspondència (1941-1964) (2018), about the epistolary relationship between Josep Pla i Gaziel.

Agnès Prats Soler

Studied Catalan Philology at the University of Barcelona, and graduated in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the same university. She has participated in the publishing of several Catalan authors and in several publishing projects (with Edicions de 1984 and Grup Editorial 62). She has proofread several volumes of Josep Pla's works published by the Chair.

Maria Puig Parnau

Graduated in from the University of Girona in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Catalan Philology. She also studied on the pilot for the Bachelor's Degree in Media and Cultural Studies (UdG, 2010), and subsequently completed a Master's Degree in Teacher Training at the University of Barcelona (2013).

She has collaborated with the Chair on the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Marta Rebón

A writer, translator and literary critic, she translated the Viaje a Rusia of Josep Pla (2018), an edition for which she also wrote the prologue. She also prepared the prologue for the Catalan reprint of the book (2020).

Jesús Revelles Esquirol

Holds a degree in Humanities and Literary Theory from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and a PhD from the same university. His thesis was entitled Direcció Lisboa: Portugal en la vida i l’obra de Josep Pla. He is the author of research articles on Lusocatalanism and on the work of Josep Pla. He has published articles as a literary critic in magazines like Llengua & Literatura, Lluc and Lletres, as well as others. He currently works at the Libraries and Documentation Service at the University of the Balearic Islands, and is an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Catalan Philology at the University of the Balearic Islands. He was in charge of the republication of Cabotatge mediterrani (2018), and collaborates on journalistic tasks in projects undertaken by the Chair.

Blanca Ripoll

Collaborates with the Chair on the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives. Collaborated with the Chair on the training session "Josep Pla and the Postwar Period", part of the online training programme 'Josep Pla, Journalist and Writer' (2021).

Toni Sala

Writer and teacher of Catalan literature. He selected and wrote the prologue for Dotze Homenots (2013).

Zosia Stasiakiewicz

Holder of a PhD in Catalan Philology from the University of Girona (2018) with a thesis on how Witold Gombrowicz's literary work was received in Spain.

She has collaborated with the Chair on the documentation and organisation of documentary and newspaper archives.

Neus Vergés

Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Catalan and Hispanic Philology, and teaches at the IES in Canet de Mar. She is co-editor of the republication of El carrer estret (2012) endorsed by the Josep Pla Chair.

David Viñas

Collaborated with the Chair on the training session "The discovery of the Costa Brava", part of the online training programme 'Josep Pla, Journalist and Writer' (2021).

Antoni Vives

Collaborated with the Chair by writing the prologue for the book Barcelona, una discussió entranyable (2015).
