The Chair's general goals are to:
- Foster transfer and research into death from an interdisciplinary perspective.
- Promote academic and social debate on life and death, fostering awareness and collective reflection.
- Promote the education of professionals in areas related to the concept of death.
- Preserve and promote cultural heritage linked to the Dance of the Death of Verges.
- Promote the transfer of knowledge between the academic world, health professionals, cultural institutions and society.
Through these objectives, the chair seeks to consolidate a space of knowledge, awareness and co-operation that connects scientific thought with the human and cultural dimension of death.
The Chair also establishes some priority goals in different areas:
- Area of research: Specific conferences and sessions will be organised on relevant topics linked to death and its symbolic representation throughout history. Interdisciplinary research projects related to death, culture and mental health will be promoted at both national and national levels.
- Training and dissemination area: The Chair will promote cultural, training and outreach activities, such as exhibitions, seminars and conferences open to the public, with the aim of bringing reflection on death and its cultural significance to the public.It will also participate in events promoted by the University of Girona and other collaborating entities, fostering social debate and the dissemination of an interdisciplinary perspective that integrates psychology, anthropology, and bioethics to contribute to a more humanistic understanding of death.
