Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is an emerging perspective that has become consolidated as a cross-cutting cornerstone in the European Union’s policies on science and technology. RRI is a broad concept that contemplates several aspects of relations between research, innovation and society. It is aimed at promoting research and innovation practices intended to achieve sustainable, ethically acceptable and socially desirable results. Responsibility has to be shared among all the key social players and implies participation from everyone (from those in charge of policies, the scientific community, the educational community, the entrepreneurial sector and industry to civil society organisations). RRI is based on the premise that science and innovation are carried out for and with society, and thereby includes citizen participation in this debate on how science and technology can meet the current social challenges.
The UdG it is an institution committed to this approach and has the goal of adopting RRI as a framework for research and innovation. Initiatives here are now being carried out in each of the cornerstones of RRI and providing for future ones being gradually launched to reduce the distance between science and society.
