Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 known as the AI Act establishes a harmonised regulatory framework for the development and use of AI systems in the European Union.
The aim of the AI Act is to ensure that these systems are safe, transparent and respectful of fundamental rights, and it came into force in August 2024, although it is not immediately applicable and all institutions have until August 2027 to ensure the implementation of all the measures it contains.
At the University of Girona, the implementation of the AI Act begins by defining the stages of implementation and the sphere of competence:
- The Governing Council, in session no. 4/2024 of the 30 May approved the give the Technical Commission for Information Management and Electronic Administration of the UdG (CTGIAE) the responsibility for ensuring regulatory compliance and the ethical use of artificial intelligence systems.
- Creation of a working group linked to the CTGIAE for implementing the AI Act at the UdG
