Offer of subjects for academic year 2026-2027

University master's degree in Applied Chromatographic Techniques (IU)

Chromatography of gases and mass spectrometry4.00 credits

Name of the subject and description Type Credits Group Duration

Cromatografia de gasos i espectrometria de massesCromatografía de gases y espectrometría de masasGas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry  (3501MO2569)

The subject intends to give the student a detailed and advanced vision about the chromatography of gases and the spectrometry of masses about the current Analytical Chemistry.Because of that, people start from a general knowledge of the foundations of the chromatography of gases and chromatography of gases and its practical utilisation for the troubleshooting analytical complex is deepened in detail in all the particularities of its instrumental aspects, in its different types of work, like this as in the advance of the technique in the different fields of application.Regarding the spectrometry of masses, it is intended to go deep into the different types of ionisation, thus how to give a vision specific to the analysers and available detectors in the current market, especially those of last generation. It is of vital importance, to go deep into the different instrumental couplings, to be able to provide a detailed information of the different sections of the chromatography coupling of gases-spectrometry of masses (interphases, ways of work and qualitative and quantitative aspects). Finally the coupling GCxGC will be studied.

OBCompulsory 4.00 J 2second semester

Chromatography of liquids4.00 credits

Name of the subject and description Type Credits Group Duration

Cromatografia de líquidsCromatografía de líquidosLiquid Chromatography  (3501MO2570)

The subject intends to give the student a detailed and advanced vision about the chromatography of liquids in the environment of the current Analytical Chemistry.Because of that, people start from a general knowledge of the foundations of the chromatography of liquids and chromatography of liquids and its practical utilisation for the troubleshooting analytical complex is deepened in detail in all the particularities of its instrumental aspects, in the different types of work, like this as in the advance of the technique in the different fields of application.People will go deep into the chromatography coupling of liquids-spectrometry of masses (methods of ionisation, analysers and qualitative and quantitative aspects).

OBCompulsory 4.00 J 2second semester

Sample processing techniques4.00 credits

Name of the subject and description Type Credits Group Duration

Tècniques de tractament de mostresTécnicas de tratamiento de muestrasSample Treatment Techniques  (3501MO2571)

The subject intends to contribute the necessary tools to the student to take the most appropriate decision when selecting a technique of sample treatment in the face of the existence of a problem, especially when the analytical complexity is high.Because of that in first place the student will start with a brief summary of the foundations of the better known techniques of extraction, pointing out in detail those techniques most compatible with the chromatography of gases and of liquid from the most daily to the most top techniques.Next, will be gone deep into the novelties of methodology and instrumentation of the techniques of sample treatment more used at present in the laboratories of research and industries, as well as its practical utilisation for the troubleshooting analytical complex. Finally, a vision will be given in depth of the importance of the derivatització in the chromatographic techniques and its need to solve cases of analysis of high difficulty

OBCompulsory 4.00 J 2second semester

Application of chromatographic techniques4.00 credits

Name of the subject and description Type Credits Group Duration

Aplicacions de les tècniques cromatogràfiquesAplicaciones de las técnicas cromatográficasApplications of Chromatographic Techniques  (3501MO2572)

In this subject it is intended to give a practical, real and current vision of the different applications of the chromatographic techniques in current environments of work.Through the presentation of multiple examples of analysis real, the student will have to be capable of giving answer to different analytical problems already they are environmental, clinical, forénsicos, of speciation or security alimentary, among others. The student will have the opportunity to know through experts in the subject area, or teachers of the master or external teachers are, fields of application of the chromatographic techniques of high complexity, how the proteomics and genomics, the doping or the determination of drugs and drugs of abuse, to quote some examples are.A vision of the chromatographic advances and of spectrometry of masses will give more pointers that give answer to itself to the multiple difficulties that turn up in the fields of analysis.

OBCompulsory 4.00 J 2second semester

Master's thesis30.00 credits

Name of the subject and description Type Credits Group Duration

Treball fi de màsterTrabajo fin de másterMaster’s Project  (3501MO2575)

The Master's Thesis has as a purpose to form the pupil in the scientific method through the experimentation in the field of the chromatographic techniques, carrying out a work of introduction to the applied research that will be able to be carried out in laboratories of research of Universities or Institutes, or also in laboratories of R+D of companies. The work will deal with the optimisation and / or improvement of analytical methodologies based on chromatographic techniques, setup and optimisation of chromatographic methods, new applications of the chromatographic techniques, management of quality in laboratories that use chromatography, etc...
