Desenvolupament de destinacionsDesarrollo de destinosDestination development   (3501MO1779)

The first part of the course focuses on the economics and financing of tourism, primarily through the study of taxation, economic arguments, and the effects of public sector intervention in tourism. It also examines the economic role of tourism in regional development and the impact of different types of tourism demand on local public-sector interventions in the economy. The second part explores the relationship between territory and local government policies relating to tourism.Particular attention is given to tourism on the Costa Brava, while also considering destinations elsewhere in the world that are managed at the local government level.Tourism destinations are largely run locally, involving county councils, regional tourism boards and local business associations active in the tourism sector. Given that local authorities are important potential employers of the master’s students, sessions with these institutions are held to present examples of tourism management across a range of destinations, including coastal, inland, mountain and urban areas. These sessions will also showcase the technical approaches used to promote and revitalise tourism.
