Grading
The evaluation is calculated by means of the following items:
FM = Final Mark
WE = Written Exam
PE = Practical Exercises
GW = Guided Work
NW = Not guided Work
Five assignments have to be delivered during the course: A1 to A5. These assignments represent exercises of GW, NW and PE.
Options for the evaluation of the course:
> Option 1:
· A1 to A5 = GW (30%) + NW (20%) + PE (20%) = 70%
· WE = 30%
FM = 0.7 x (A1 to A5) + 0.3 x WE
> Option 2:
· A1 to A4 = GW (30%) + NW (20%) = 50%
· User-Subroutine (US) = code (PE (20%)) + presentation (WE (30%)) = 50 %
FM = 0.5 x (A1 to A4) + 0.5 x US
Comments:
· A5 is not requested.
· WE is not requested.
· User-subroutine is the implementation, in a commercial finite element code, of a 2D and 4 node isoparametric element.
· If the student decides to change the evaluation from Option 2 to Option 1, it should be notified to the teacher one week before the exam.
For any option, a minimum mark of 5 is needed (over 10 points) to pass the course.
It is worth noting that if an assignment is delivered after the fixed deadline, the mark will be automatically reduced 2 points over 10.
Evaluation activities cannot be retaken.
Specific criteria for the "No show" grade:
The mark “No Show” (NP) will appear in the certificate in cases where the following points are satisfied:
- The student does not attend the WE, or the student does not deliver the US.
- The student delivers less than two assignments Ai.
Otherwise, the mark of the subject will be calculated using the formula noted above. It is worth noting that if the student does not deliver any assessment part, this part will have a mark equal to zero.
Single Assessment:
In this case, the course mark will be from grading a final written exam.
Minimum requirements to pass:
The minimum mark to pass the course is 5.0 over 10.
Mentorship
There will be specified weekly time frames for on-line tutorships (via GoogleMeet or any other platform approved by UdG). Electronic mail can be also used to solve questions or doubts and set tutorship appointments out of the specified times frames.
Communication and interaction with students
Communication with students will be via e-mail and the News forum of the course’s Moodle. Individual on-line meetings will be possible for a personalised monitoring.
Design Amendment
Amendment of activities:
As the course is already prepared for on-line teaching and evaluation, no modification of the evaluation activities is foreseen.
Amendment of the assessment:
As the course is already prepared for on-line teaching and evaluation, no modification of the evaluation activities is foreseen.
Mentoring and communication:
If the evolution of the pandemic results in a more restricted scenario, the course will become totally on-line but with the same terms and conditions.
