Dr. Pilar Giró is a professor in the Department of History and Art History at the University of Girona, where she teaches at the Faculty of Tourism and in the Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Public Relations. She holds a PhD in Tourism from the University of Girona with the dissertation The Transformation of the Contemporary Museum: Social, Digital and Flexible (Excellent Cum Laude with Industrial Mention). She also holds a Master’s Degree in Cultural Management from the Open University of Catalonia and a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the University of Girona.Her professional career has been devoted to the museum and cultural field. Since 1997 she has worked as an independent art curator and, since 2012, she has directed the museographic project of the Carmen Thyssen Space in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, which she has combined since 2023 with the curatorship of the exhibitions at the Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra. She has been responsible for numerous exhibition projects, including Vincles. Cuixart in dialogue with Carmen Thyssen Collection (2025), Entre Obres. Prefigured Dialogues with the Carmen Thyssen Collection (2024), In(visible). Digital Exhibition (2022), Univers Guinovart (2021), and Iconographies. From Sorolla to Picasso and Valdés (2019).She is also an expert in the development of cultural and educational programs, with experience in institutions such as the University of Nariño (Colombia), the Institute of Latin American Studies (Colombia), the Institute of Education Sciences Josep Pallach at the University of Girona, and the Open University of Catalonia (lecturer in 20th-Century Art). Her research and professional practice focus on museographic innovation, digitalization, and the creation of immersive visitor experiences, with research stays at internationally renowned centers such as Culturespaces Studio (Paris).She is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA/ACCA) and of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
