Lecturer in History of Mediaeval Art Joan Molina Figueras (Girona, 1965). Awarded a Doctorate in History of Art by the Autonomous University of Barcelona for his thesis entitled Images and ideas in Late Gothic Catalan painting (1996). He has been a lecturer at the University of Girona since 1990 and mainly studies the meanings and functions of architecture and the visual arts in Catalonia in the Gothic Period. He is currently working on two research lines: the beginnings of the Gothic Cathedral of Girona and the relationship between art and power in the period of Alfonso the Magnanimous. Part of the latter research work is carried out within the framework of the project entitled The European dimension of the Humanistic Latin literature of the Crown of Aragon (HUM2005-04657). I have commissioned the exhibitions “Bernat Martorell and the autumn of the Catalan Gothic period” (2003) and “Bishop Margarit and his period” (2006).
