The Department of Physics is very active in research in several areas. Three research groups have their headquarters and maintain their infrastructure (laboratories, workshops, measurement stations) in the department’s spaces. These groups follow lines of study about environmental physics, complex systems, materials and thermodynamics. Some of the department's teaching staff also take part in a fourth group committed to studying materials for structural design.
Furthermore, research activity is not limited to carrying out projects and publishing the results, but is complemented by training researchers within the framework of various doctoral programs.
