About the UdG

Raimon Panikkar

Doctor Honoris Causa

Raimon Panikkar, born in Barcelona in 1918, was awarded doctorates in Philosophy (1946) and Sciences (1958) from the University of Madrid, and in Theology from the University Laterana of Rome (1961).

Panikkar received the honorary doctorate because from the basis of a wise personal experience and a global and critical perspective he has made an exceptional contribution to the essential intercultural and interreligious dialogue of our time. By agreement of the Governing Council of the University of Girona in session 3/08, of 27 March 2008, at the proposal of the Department of Philology and Philosophy of the University of Girona. The UdG is the first Catalan university to join with other universities and institutions from all over the worldin recognition of Raimon Panikkar.
