UNIACT! project

The twelve Catalan universities will roll out a plan of 7 actions during 2024, 2025 and 2026, coordinated with the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation, within the framework of the collaboration protocol signed by by both parties.

This project consists of the creation of a cross-disciplinary course of global education that will approach 12 different themes relating to cooperation and global justice. These subjects will include aspects such as the construction of peace, the transformational economy, climate justice, the defence of human rights, gender justice and more.

Key characteristics of the course:

  • Collectively defined subject matter: Themes will be designed by a working group made up of universities and the ACCD.
  • Innovative and pioneering format: The course will use the usual student communication channels to ensure accessibility and relevance.
  • Reuse of materials: The training capsules recorded will be able to be reused for different editions of the course, with only the annual discussions and final session needing to be organised.
  • Annual repetition: This format allows the course to be repeated every year, with minimal adjustments.

This project aims to promote dynamic and recurrent learning about crucial matters in cooperation and global justice in the university sphere, with a high level of participation and involvement by educational institutions.

This project consists of an Interuniversity Meeting on Research in Cooperation, with the goal of giving visibility to research for development and establishing the foundations for the joint design of instruments and incentives to promote it.

Main characteristics:

  1. Identification of research in cooperation:

    • An analysis will be made of research activities on development cooperation in each university, based on a report by the Nadir cooperative. This will allow us to understand the diversity of areas of research, the main stakeholders, iconic projects and support instruments.
  2. Preparation of the meeting:

    • Compilation of information for each university to gauge the scale of its research activities.
    • Themed sections will be created to structure the meeting, and an interuniversity commission established to design the contents.
  3. Organisation of the meeting (February 2025):

    • The meeting will be on-site, with the possibility of streaming for some sessions.
    • It will last a whole day with two main objectives:
      1. Showing the diversity and quality of the areas of research in cooperation among Catalan universities.
      2. Reflecting together about key subjects such as academic recognition and funding for research in development cooperation.
  4. Participants:

    • Mainly, researchers and managers in cooperation and university research.
    • External stakeholders will also take part, such as representatives from the Government of Catalonia and professionals from the areas of cooperation and research.
  5. Publication of results:

    • The results and conclusions of the day will be set out in a publication.
    • This will be designed and typeset for its publication and dissemination, the goal being to provide input for future debates and policies.

This meeting is intended to be a space to share knowledge and promote research in development cooperation among the Catalan universities, with a focus on joint action and innovation in this sphere.

This action has as the goal of promoting the implementation and consolidation of the Learning and Service (ApS) in the sphere of development cooperation at Catalan universities, connecting students, teachers (PDI) and third-sector organisations.Several activities are planned up to improve the collaboration among these stakeholders and to institutionalise ApS methodology.

The activities include:

  1. Meeting with the ApSUCAT network to identify current good practices in universities and explore improvements, particularly in recognising teaching and research staff involved in ApS projects.
  2. Diffusion and participation in the ApS, exploring new mechanisms to connect supply and demand for ApS among universities and third sector organisations.
  3. Application of the agreements of the ApSU11 Congress to integrate the conclusions into universities.
  4. Institutionalisation of the ApS through meetings with managerial teams, academic staff and entities, to create protocols and tools that facilitate implementation.

This action also seeks to consolidate ApS as an educational tool recognised formally in Catalan universities.

This action is aimed at designing instruments and incentives for funding research and interuniversity cooperation, as well as academic recognition for research in cooperation.

The activities include:

  1. Organising interuniversity working sessions, with academic and research teams, along with research management and cooperation management teams, plus government cooperation and Catalan research bodies.
