AACCD call for grant applications for 2026 development and global education projects

The Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) has published a call for grant applications for development and global education projects, aimed at development NGOs, Catalan universities and affiliated research centres. We would appreciate it if you could share this information with anyone who might be interested.

Project types, modalities and incompatibilities

The call covers two project types:

  • Type 1: projects lasting 12 to 24 months
  • Type 2: projects lasting more than 24 and up to 48 months

Both types include two modalities:

  • Development projects
  • Global education projects

Key limitations and incompatibilities:

  • Each entity (including the UdG), whether acting alone or as part of a consortium, may submit a maximum of one project per modality.
  • It is not possible to submit proposals in the same modality under both Type 1 andType 2 simultaneously.

Consequently, the UdG will have to prioritise proposals internally.

Project characteristics and priorities

  • Mandatory gender and human rights-based approach (EGiBDH)
  • Sectoral priorities: Human rights, gender justice, peacebuilding, environment and climate justice, institutional strengthening (T1 also includes global health, migration and transformative economies)
  • Geographical priorities
    • T2 Development: priority countries such as Colombia, Guatemala, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal and Palestine, with the possibility of regional approaches (Latin America, Mediterranean, West Africa, etc.)
    • T1 Development: expanded list (also includes Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Tunisia, The Gambia, etc.),as well as conflict contexts and diasporas
      • Global education: Activities in Catalonia aimed at fostering critical citizenship with local-global connections

Amounts per project and co-financing:

Type 1:

  • Development:
    • Up to €250,000 (individual)
    • Up to €350,000 (consortium/partnership)
  • Global education:
    • Up to €150,000 (individual)
    • Up to €250,000 (consortium/partnership)

Type 2:

  • Development:
    • Up to €500,000 (individual)
    • Up to €1,000,000 (consortium/partnership)
  • Global education:
    • Up to €400,000 (individual)
    • Up to €700,000 (consortium/partnership)

Maximum grant of up to 95% of the total project cost (mandatory co-financing)

Call timeframe

The application submission period begins on 19 June and ends on 17 July 2026 (inclusive)

UdG internal procedure

Given the limit on the number of applications and the need for institutional prioritisation, an internal selection procedure has been established.

For this reason, interested parties must submit basic project information for internal evaluation using the attached form to cooperacio@udg.edu.

Internal deadline: before 28 June 2026

Based on the proposals submitted, the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation will make a decision in accordance with the University's general interests.

Clarification regarding VAT on chargeable expenses

According to the guidelines, VAT is an eligible expense only on the non-recoverable portion.

In the case of the UdG:

  • These projects are not classified as R&D&i and are typically managed using a pro-rata VAT method (provisional 15%).
  • This means that:
    • 85% of VAT → eligible and chargeable to the project
    • 15% of VAT → ineligible (recoverable via the AEAT)

Practical consequences

  • VAT reduces the project's available budget (it consumes the grant funds).
  • The 15% VAT portion must be co-financed by another unit.

The decision regarding the managing unit rests with the project manager, in coordination with the centre's financial administration office.

The AECID Democracy Programme aims to develop mechanisms and lines of action that strengthen democracy as a system promoting inclusive development and guaranteeing citizens' rights and freedoms. It seeks to foster peaceful societies by positioning Spanish cooperation as a key partner in capacity building for conflict resolution (political, economic, social...), facilitating dialogue for peaceful coexistence, and supporting processes of memory recovery and reconciliation. To this end, the programme proposes collaborating with Spanish entities experienced in this field to create an ecosystem that strengthens our position as a key partner in peace-building and conflict resolution.
