UdG Smoke-free spaces

For a healthy and smoke-free university

The University of Girona launches the campaign "Smoke-free spaces", with the commitment of creating a safer and healthier university which is more respectful towards the environment. With this initiative, we want to promote a lifestyle free of tobacco on our campus and to protect the health of the whole university community.

Legal information

The harmful effects of tobacco are widely known and affect both smokers and those that share spaces with them.Because of this, following the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and in accordance with the current regulations, we declare all spaces at the UdG as smoke-free zones, including outdoor areas, inner yards and car parking areas.

Through this campaign, we want to foster collective awareness, the goal being to look after everybody’s health and help create a cleaner and more pleasant university environment.Help us make the University of Girona a healthier place, free of smoke!

Campaign goals

The University of Girona is committed to promoting healthy habits among the whole university community, creating smoke-free environments for the prevention of illnesses linked to the consumption of tobacco.

Through its declaration of smoke-free spaces, the UdG wants to safeguard the health of everybody forming part of the university, smokers and non-smokers alike, avoiding exposure to smoke from tobacco and e-cigarettes.

Following the regulations of Act 28/2005 and its amendment, the campaign declares all the university spaces (indoors, outside, inner yards and car parking areas) as smoke-free zones, going further than the current demands of the law.

This campaign includes steps to make the university community more aware of the harmful effects of tobacco and the importance of respecting smoke-free spaces.

The University of Girona is aligned with legislative advances, taking a proactive stance before future state regulations that will be more restrictive over the use of tobacco in public spaces, including university campuses.

The UdG wants to guarantee that its campus is a safe and healthy space for the whole community, especially for the young university population, reducing exposure to tobacco and its derivative products.
