Consejo Asesor Sectorial

Orientación estratégica externa

Pieza nuclear y fundamental en la estructura del Campus, está constituido por un grupo reducido de personas escogidas por su trayectoria profesional y personal, todas ellas externas a la universidad y cuya autoridad es indiscutiblemente reconocida en el sector. Lo Consejo Asesor Sectorial (CASO) ocurre un excelente foro de debate que tiene que aportar visión estratégica independiente, no influida por los condicionantes que afectan a la UdG, y que tiene que orientar el planteamiento de la actividad académica del campus tanto con respecto a la orientación y necesidades de la investigación como en materia de formación. Tiene que asesorar también sobre el modelo de relación con las empresas del sector y la presencia internacional del campus y dar apoyo, en la medida del posible, a las relaciones institucionales relacionadas con el campus.

Carles Matabosch

Dr Carles Matabosch obtained his PhD in Industrial Engineering at the University of Girona. He previously worked as Technical Director at AQSENSE and he is now Manager Software Engineering at the multinational Cognex, in Girona (Spain). In both cases, he developed industrial vision products and projects, especially in the field of three-dimensional vision.

Deanna Hood

Deanna works in partnership with burns surgeons to improve wound healing for large-area burns, by delivering robot-assisted regenerative cell therapy using a patient’s own skin cells printed directly onto their wound with Inventia’s precision bioprinting technology. She previously worked as a Software Engineer at Open Robotics, developing the Robot Operating System (ROS 2), a software framework that fosters collaboration among the robotics community by enabling roboticists to leverage each other’s algorithms and contribute to a global, open source ecosystem. Her speaking engagements include TED@Sydney as a finalist for TED2013, and keynote at ROSCon, an international robotics conference for which she was on the Organising and Program Committees for 2016-2018. Deanna studied at Universitat de Girona in 2013 during her joint MSc in Robotics and Computer Vision through the VIBOT Erasmus Mundus programme. For her thesis, she developed the first robotic partner for children with handwriting difficulties, which in an innovative twist on educational robotics is designed to write badly so that by correcting it children can benefit from “learning by teaching”.

Jhimli Mitra

Dr. Jhimli Mitra is a Senior Scientist at the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision group at GE Research, USA. After obtaining a doctorate degree in Computer Engineering from University of Girona and University of Dijon, France working in the domain of medical image analysis, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow for few years in Australia and USA. She has over 10 years of experience in medical image analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence and now leads several projects at GE Research.

Jordi Pagès

Dr Jordi Pagès is a Computer Engineer and holds a PhD in Robotics and Computer Vision from the University of Girona and the University of Rennes I (France). He worked at Davantis Technologies developing an analysis system for intelligent video surveillance. In 2009, he joined PAL Robotics, where he is currently Head of Product and Head of the Intra-Logistics Robotic Solutions Business Unit.

Josep Aulinas

Dr Josep Aulinas is currently a platform architect in the automotive sector. Industrial engineer and PhD in technology at the University of Girona. His areas of specialization are computer vision, artificial intelligence and robotics applied to driving assistance systems and systems for autonomous driving.

Luca Zappella

Senior Machine Learning Researcher at Apple Inc. since 2015, he has worked in this field for more than 20 years with experience that ranges from tech giants, to start-ups and freelance activities. He was a research fellow at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, and he obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Vision at the VICOROB laboratory at the University of Girona. His professional interests are in applied research, computer vision, machine learning (ML), ML model and data introspection, ML fairness and robustness.

Natalia Hurtós

Dr Natàlia Hurtós is currently Software Product Manager at Iqua Robotics. She holds a European Master in Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT, 2009) and a PhD in Computer Engineering (2014) from the University of Girona. Since 2006, she has participated in multiple research projects (both national and European) related to underwater robotics and has been involved in technology transfer bringing research results to the market. She has extensive experience in developing and integrating software for autonomous underwater vehicles as well as in applications involving the use of sonar devices for mapping.

Núria Oliver

Dr Nuria Oliver, obtained her PhD in Artificial Intelligence at MIT. She is co-founder and vice president of ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems), co-founder of the ELLIS Alicante (Spain) unit, Presidential Commissioner for AI Strategy and Science data against COVID-19, Chief Data Scientist at Data Pop Alliance, Chief Scientific Advisor at the Vodafone Institute, independent advisor at Bankia, and number academic at the Royal Academy of Engineering. His work in the computational modelling of human behaviour using Artificial Intelligence techniques, human-machine interaction, mobile computing and Big Data analysis - especially for the Social Good - is known internationally. She has more than 180 scientific publications and 41 patents. Her work has received dozens of awards and recognitions. She firmly believes in the value of technology to improve the life quality of people, both individually and collectively, and dedicates her professional career to this goal.

Pol Toldrà

Pol Toldrà is a senior engineer and R&D manager at Tavil. He has participated in several projects related to industrial robotics, artificial vision and automatized solutions for the packaging sector. As a worldwide pioneering and innovative company, Tavil has the mission of foreseeing market needs, and providing high-tech solutions in engineering as well as equipment production. To achieve these objectives, Tavil combines the latest robotic solutions, artificial vision technologies, data acquisition and its own simulation software.

Tudor Nicosevici

Tudor Nicosevici is the head of ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) Advanced Engineering Romania, Continental Automotive. Additionally, he is involved with the technical coordination of artificial intelligence, environment perception and understanding activities for autonomous driving within the Advanced Engineering group. His areas of expertise are computer vision, robotics and artificial intelligence, with a M.Sc. in sensor fusion and a PhD in robotics and computer vision. Previously, he worked with VICOROB Group, University of Girona, and Coronis Computing, coordinating projects for applied research and technology transfer between the academia and the industry sector.

Xavier Ribalta

Xavier Ribalta is CEO, R+D manager and co-owner (together with his brother Sisu) of Ribinerf. This company has evolved from automation, through special projects of computer vision, to the current business model of manufacturing industrial robots, based on non-deterministic scenarios. Combining Virtual Reality with Artificial Intelligence has allowed our company to standardise machines aimed at the automotive sector, robotising processes that were not possible before, exporting these machines to Europe and achieving international recognition.
