Julie
Waddington is Associate Professor of language education (Agregada Serra Húnter)
in the Department of Subject-Specific Education (Faculty of Education &
Psychology) at the University of Girona.
Her research
interests span fields of education, applied linguistics and cultural studies, with
a particular focus on:

learner and teacher identities

intersections
between multilingual identities and funds of identity theories
She has
published widely in this interdisciplinary field and presents regularly at
international conferences (see “Research” for full list of publications and
conference papers). As member of the Culture, Education and Human
Development research group, she coordinates a core line of research
focusing on analysing and managing linguistic, identity and cultural diversity
in educational contexts, and has participated in numerous competitively funded

She supervises doctoral theses in this area
and welcomes proposals from students interested in this or related lines of research.
She is
coordinator of the ELT area in the Faculty of Education & Psychology and
teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education: Early
Childhood Education and Primary Education bachelor’s degrees and the
Master in Attention to Diversity in Inclusive Education (see “Teaching”
for full list of courses). Prior
to this, she taught at Edge Hill University (UK) and Manchester Metropolitan
University (UK), where she completed her doctoral thesis in literature and
critical theory.
Deeply
invested in the constant improvement of teaching practice at her own university
and beyond, she has coordinated the university's English as a Medium
