Bachelor Degree (BSc) in Biological Sciences from the UAB (1988), Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Biological Sciences from the UdG (1994) and Senior Lecturer at the University since 1/02/1998.
Secretary of the Department of Biology (2002-2004) and Study Coordinator of the Degree in Biology (2017 to 2023).
My scientific career began in 1990 when I entered the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, Barcelona, Spain) with a 1.5-year grant from the Interdepartmental Commission for Research and Technological Innovation (Autonomous Government of Catalonia, Spain). I carried out my doctoral thesis at the University of Girona (UdG) thanks to a pre-doctoral fellowship (1991-1994), which dealt with porcine reproductive biology. Subsequently, I was Assistant Professor at the UdG until in February 1998 I promoted through opposition to Associate Professor at the same university, where I have developed my university projection as a teacher, manager and researcher. In the field of research, focused since its inception on the biotechnology of porcine animal reproduction, I have carried out both basic and applied research projects, often in close collaboration with other national research groups (UAB, Barcelona; University of Murcia, Murcia; National Institute of Agricultural Research –INIA-, Madrid) and international (France, United Kingdom).
My interests and scientific-technical objectives have covered different fields focused on: several light and electronic microscopy techniques, computer assisted semen analysis, sperm cryopreservation, assisted fertilization, cell culture, embryonic sexing and semen health control for artificial insemination (AI). The lines of research developed have especially aimed at improving the reproductive performance of boars intended for AI.
The interest aroused by the applied nature of research in the field of porcine assisted reproduction led some companies from the private sector to provide financial support in many research projects. This fact is reflected in the form of numerous agreements established with our research group (29 projects), which have complemented the financial support of public organizations based on competitive calls (26 projects, 2 of them international projects). In this context, the achievements have led to a remarkable scientific production, highlighting the number and quality of the works published in Science Citation Index (SCI) journals of high impact (most of the first quartile of their category), two books (from national publishers) and several book chapters (8, 1 of them from an international publisher -Springer-Verlag-, Briz & Fàbrega (2013) (doi: 10.1007/978-3-642-35049-8 ); as well as a large number of communications in national and international scientific congresses.
