Màster en Sistemes Robòtics Intel·ligents (MIRS)

Explore Robotic Localization with Graph SLAM at MIRS

MIRS students participated in an immersive seminar on Graph SLAM, led by Professor Joan Solà. Over two days, they combined theory and practice to deepen their understanding of advanced robotic localization techniques.

On March 11 and 12, the University of Girona (UdG) hosted a two-day seminar on Graph SLAM Hands-on Localization, bringing together students from the Intelligent Field Robotic Systems (IFROSand Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems (MIRS) programs. The seminar focused on Graph SLAM, offering students valuable theoretical insights and practical applications while providing an in-depth look at the latest advancements in robotic localization and mapping.

Key Speaker: Renowned SLAM Robotics expert Professor Joan Solà from IRI - Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial, CSIC-UPC. We sincerely thank Professor Joan Solà for coming every year to share his expertise with our students, and Professor Pere Ridao for organizing this event.

The seminar was structured into two key sessions: Foundation Day and Implementation Day.

Day 1 for Mathematical Foundation

The first day introduced participants to the fundamental concepts behind Graph SLAM, offering theoretical insights into how modern robotics can achieve more precise localization.

Day 2 for Implementation

The second day shifted focus to practical applications, where students were able work with real-world SLAM challenges, exploring how autonomous systems can refine their positioning in dynamic environments.

Role of Graph SLAM in Robotics

Unlike traditional approaches, Graph SLAM has emerged as a powerful tool for autonomous vehicles, drones, and robots operating in complex, GPS-denied environments. Its ability to handle large-scale mapping with greater efficiency makes it a preferred choice for next-generation robotics.

This seminar not only provided a valuable learning experience but also reinforced our commitment to cutting-edge robotics research. As automation continues to evolve, initiatives like this play a crucial role in shaping the future of intelligent robotic systems.
