Professor in Modern HistoryMember of the Historical Research Centre of the UdGMember of the Institutions and Society in Modern Catalonia Group of Studies, a Consolidated Research Group (Generalitat of Catalonia 2005 SGR 00663) Xavier Torres Sans (Barcelona, 1955) is the author of several studies on Catalonia in the 16th and 17th centuries; in particular on banditry, textile manufacturing, popular memory and the Reapers’ War. Recently, his research has focused on the analysis of patriotism and collective identities in Modern Europe and the Catalonia of the Austrian monarchs. He has written a book entitled Naciones sin nacionalismo Cataluña en la Monarquía Hispánica. Future research is planned on musical oratories in the Catalonia of the Bourbons and, in general, on European Baroque opera.
