Cristina Barris is Associate Professor (Profesora Agregada) of the Construction Engineering division at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Construction (EMCI) and member of the research group AMADE of the University of Girona (UdG).
Her main research lines are concrete structures reinforced and/or strengthened with fibre reinforced polymers (FRP), their serviceability behaviour (instantaneous and time-dependent), the bond and flexural behaviour of Externally Bonded Reinforcement (EBR) and Near-surface mounted (NSM) strengthened concrete elements, anchoring systems of FRP strengthening, and design guidelines & codes.
She has been Principal Investigator of national competitive projects from the "Plan Nacional" (BIA2017, PID2020 & PID2023) related to the strengthening of concrete structures with FRP, "Transición Ecológica y Digital" (TED2021) related to the reuse of composite components from aircraft industry in construction, "Colaboración Público-Privada" (CPP2022) related to embedded FRP reinforcement, and one regional project (PECT) related to dry stone and brick vaults. She has also contributed as full-time researcher in other four national competitive projects and in four European projects, with the common them being the use of composite materials to reinforce and/or strengthen concrete structures.
She is member of the Executive Committee and Council of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) since 06/2024 and 12/2021, respectively. She is active member in task groups TG2.1 (Serviceability Models) and TG5.1 (FRP reinforcement for concrete structures) of the International Féderation of Concrete (fib) since 2016 and 2008, respectively.
She is Editor of the Journal on Construction and Building Materials (ELSEVIER) and member of the Editoral Board of the Journal of Composites for Construction (ASCE), as well as reviewer of different scientific indexed JCR journals in her research lines.
She is Chair of the upcoming FRPRCS-17 international conference, to be held in Girona in 2026. She has been member of the scientific committee of several international and national conferences, and invited speaker in two international conferences.
She is the local Coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus European Master FRP++ at UdG.
