On June 5th, Tomasz Dorf has very satisfactory presented his PhD dissertation entitled “Contribution to ultrasonic micro-moulding process of high performance polymers” and supervised by Dr Joaquim Ciurana. This doctoral thesis is a contribution to the knowledge of the micro-injection process by ultrasound using high-performance materials like polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) and polyetheretercetone (PEEK), establishing a relationship between the processing parameters and the mechanical properties of the product, a key aspect in the production of the future pieces. The grading panel consisted of Dra. Maria Luisa Romeu, Dra. Elisa Vazquez, and Dr. Guillem Quintana. On June 6th, GREP’s PhD student Antonio J. Guerra has very satisfactory presented his PhD dissertation entitled “A Contribution to Bioabsordable Stent Manufacturing with Additive Manufacturing Technologies” which has been supervised by Dr Joaquim Ciurana. This thesis work aimed to contributed in the development of new technologies based on AM to produce one of the most important medical devices in the medical field, the cardiovascular stents. The thesis focus on stablish relationship between the key process parameters and the main stent characteristics. This work presents a techno-economical comparison between the current manufacturing process, Laser Micro Cutting, and the technology developed during the thesis work, the Tubular 3D Printing. Also, this work analyzed the biological aspect of this medical device. The grading panel consisted of Dra. Maria Luisa Romeu, Dra. Elisa Vazquez, and Dr. Daniel Teixidor.
