Marlisa Ayu Trisia currently holds the position as a postdoctoral fellow of Organizational Networks, Innovation and Development of Strategies and Tourism Products (ONIT), Institute of Tourism Studies (INSETUR), Universitat de Girona. She earned her PhD in Rural Development from Ehime University, Japan in 2017.
Before moving to Girona, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Nagoya University, Japan with a main research topic on agricultural rural development. She was also involved in 2 research projects, namely Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research in Japan-KAKENHI funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). She also worked in several humanitarian organizations such as Plan International, GIZ and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where she gained experience in practical cases of rural development and community development.
So far, she has published several articles, books, proceedings and policy briefs. In addition, she is also a reviewer for several journals related to agro-complex and rural development. Her research interest in INSETUR is focusing on the fluidity of rurality, development and rural tourism. Since INSETUR promotes interdisciplinary studies, thus her experience in rural development in Indonesia and Japan brings a new perspective to rural tourism to redefine the concept of rurality. In addition, she is also teaching at the Faculty of Tourism and Master in Tourism Management and Planning (MDPT).
