Marlisa Ayu Trisia is a lecturer in the Department of Business Organization, Management and Product Design at the Universitat de Girona, within the area of Business Organization. She is a member of the Research Group on Ontological Nomadisms and Inclusive Transformations (ONIT). Her research focuses on rural development, rurality, rural tourism, community development, and the transformation of rural areas, including the role of more-than-human actors in shaping rural places and tourism experiences.
She holds a PhD in Rural Development from Ehime University, Japan, awarded in 2017. Before joining the University of Girona, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Nagoya University, Japan, where her research focused primarily on agricultural and rural development economics. She also participated in research projects supported by Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI), funded by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Prior to her academic career, she worked with international development and humanitarian organizations, including Plan International, German agency for international development cooperation (GIZ), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). These experiences provided her with practical expertise in rural and community development and continue to inform her interdisciplinary research.
Her work has resulted in academic articles, books, conference proceedings, policy briefs, and other research outputs. Currently, she teaches at the Faculty of Tourism, including the Master’s Degree in Tourism Management and Planning (MDPT), and at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Universitat de Girona.
