Description:
Exploraremos la transformación del imperialismo desde sus orígenes hasta su papel en el mundo actual, analizando como prácticas como el extractivismo y el capitalismo financiero configuran nuestra era. Estudiaremos las respuestas a la globalización, incluyendo movimientos de justicia global y esfuerzos de la alterglobalización, buscando entender y contrarrestar los efectos del imperialismo y la globalización neoliberal. Reflexionaremos sobre cómo el imperialismo ha conformado las estructuras globales y cómo estos legados siguen evolucionando en el siglo XXI. Abordaremos las perspectivas decoloniales y poscoloniales, así como las visiones emergentes del sur global, con un enfoque para construir respuestas a la globalización desde la justicia social.

Individual portfolio including three of the practical case studies explored during the course (40%) The portfolio must offer a deeper analysis of the selected cases, include a rationale for their selection, and demonstrate the connection between theoretical concepts and practical applications and an in-class presentation of a case study. Grading

The continuous assessment will consist of the following components, each contributing a percentage to the final course grade:

1) Theoretical exam covering the contents addressed throughout the course (50%). This exam is resit eligible.
2) Individual portfolio including three of the practical case studies explored during the course. The portfolio must offer a deeper analysis of the selected cases, include a rationale for their selection, and demonstrate the connection between theoretical concepts and practical applications and in-class presentation of a case study (40%). The portfolio is not resit eligible.
3) Attendance and active participation assessed based on regular attendance and meaningful engagement in class discussions and activities (5%). This component is not resit eligible.
4) Participation in the activities held within the framework of the Global Week (5%).

In order to pass the course through continuous assessment, students must obtain a minimum score of 5 out of 10 in the theoretical exam and a minimum score of 4 out of 10 in the portfolio. Additionally, the final average grade for the course must be equal to or higher than 5 out of 10.

Specific criteria for the "No show" grade:
Students who do not take the exam will be marked as 'absent'.

Single Assessment:
The single assessment will consist of the following components, each contributing a percentage to the final course grade:

Theoretical exam, covering the contents addressed throughout the course. This exam is resit eligible if not passed in the firs sitting (50%)

Weekly critical essays based on the required readings assigned and/or a critical review and reading test on a literary work to be determined. This component is not resit eligible (50%)

In order to pass the course through single assessment, students must obtain a minimum score of 5 out of 10 in both the theoretical exam and the weekly commentaries.
