TEACHING ACTIVITY
Since the academic year 2008-09 I have been teaching the contents of Histology of the preclinical courses of the Degree in Medicine at the University of Girona (UdG). I am also a lecturer of the master's degree in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine and the master's degree in Food Biotechnology, both at the UdG.
My teaching activities include, in addition to theoretical and practical training, the direction and tutoring of grade (TFG) and master dissertations (TFM), the supervision and tutoring of doctoral theses, the tutoring of internships in companies (PE) and practical modules (MP), and the tutoring of students within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. I am also a PBL (Problem-Based Learning) tutor at the Faculty of Medicine and participate in the Tutorial Action Plan (PAT) of the Faculty of Sciences.
I have participated in 6 teaching innovation projects, and leaded three of them. Since 2022, I have been a member of the Teaching Innovation Network on Health Sciences Education.
I have also participated as the author of two teaching publications:
- Bonet, Briz, Camps, Pinart, Fradera. Laboratory Practices Guide: Biology of Reproduction and Development. University of Girona, 1996.
- Benito, Pinart, Roldán, Viñas, Santos, Massaguer, Puig, Vilanova. Objective-Based Learning Applied to a Teaching Module of Preclinical Contents of the Degree in Medicine. Univest, 2009.
Likewise, I have been editor of two teaching publications, within the framework of the training of doctoral students:
- I Conference of the doctoral program in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine and Health. Abstract Book, 2016.
- I Conference of Pre-doctoral Researchers. Abstract Book, 2017.
MANAGEMENT
Since the 19th of October 2021 I am the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. Previously, I had participated in other university management activities:
- Secretary of the Department of Biology (07/11/2007-14/12/2009)
- Secretary of the Faculty of Medicine (15/12/2009-12/09/2012)
- Coordinator of the PhD Program in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine and Health (01/10/2013-23/11/2014)
- Director of the Doctoral School (16/10/2014-20/12/2017)
RESERACH LINES
Throughout my career as a researcher at the Research Group in Biotechnology of Animal and Human Reproduction (TechnoSperm) of the University of Girona I have participated in different lines of research that have been developed in collaboration with other research groups, both national and international, as well as with public and private companies, and which are detailed below:
- Spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis
- Epididymal maturation
- Interaction between sperm and epididymal epithelial cells
- Sperm physiology and capacitation
- Improvement of the sperm quality and semen preservation

- Improvement of extender media intended to sperm preservation (elimination of antibiotics)
- Effects of photostimulation on sperm preservation, capacitation and fertility
- Cryopreservation of gametes (sperm and oocytes) and embryos
- In vitro maturation of oocytes
- In vitro fertilization and embryo production
- Preimplantation embryonic development
- Proteome, transcriptome, and interactome analysis of gametes and embryos
- Fertility preservation
- Genetics of infertility
I also collaborate in two lines of biomedical research focused on the study of:
- Myocardial dysfunction in patients with septic shock
- Anastomosis dehiscence in rectal cancer surgery
RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS
As a result of my research activity, to date I have published 70 scientific articles in international journals indexed in SCI/JCR and of recognized prestige, 52 of them placed in the first quartile. I have also published 11 articles of research dissemination.
In recognition of the scientific quality of my publications, I was the Guest Editor of four Special Issues for different scientific journals, all of them of the first quartile:
