I'm Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University of Girona since 2001 and Research Professor at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) since December 2011. I’m a microbial ecologist with wide expertise in the study of microbial communities in inland waters using molecular tools. I’m a member of the group of Molecular Microbial Ecology at the Institute of Aquatic Ecology at the UdG, and I’m leading the "Water Microbiology" group at ICRA where I’m investigating the effect of anthropogenic pollution on the diversity and dissemination of antibiotic resistance in surface waters, sewer networks, and wastewater treatment plants. I’ve been a PI in 9 research projects (7 national) and a researcher in other 14 projects. I’m the author of 108 publications in SCI journals and 7 book chapters (total citations: 5,055; h-index: 40). I’m a member of the commission in charge of the National Action Plan on Antibiotic Resistance (PRAN 2022-2024) and I’ve been in the coordination team of the Catalan Surveillance Network of SARS-CoV-2 in Sewage (SARSAIGUA) since its beginning in July 2020 to its end in December 2023.
