I have a degree in Biology from Pompeu Fabra University (2007), a Master's in International Health and Tropical Medicine from the University of Barcelona (2012), and a Ph.D. in Environmental Virology and Biotechnology (2016) from the University of Barcelona.
During my Ph.D., I worked on various studies aimed at improving the control of drinking water quality to reduce the risk of viral infectious diseases, especially in the context of humanitarian aid. My work primarily involved monitoring fecal contamination of water sources using viral tracers, studying the disinfection of pathogenic viruses, and developing low-cost purification technologies to reduce viral pollutants, among other areas.
From 2016 to 2018, I completed a postdoctoral stay as a lecturer at the University of the Americas in Quito, Ecuador. During this period, I conducted studies on the dispersion of viral pollutants in the surface waters of the Guayllabamba basin and researched community implementation of ceramic water filters.
In 2019, upon my return to Catalonia, I worked as a research support technician in the microbiology section of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), focusing on the development of diagnostic methods for arboviral infections.
In 2020, with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I joined the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) as a postdoctoral researcher in the SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Program in wastewater across Catalonia, where I contributed to the technical coordination of the program for three years. Following the conclusion of the surveillance program at the end of 2023, I transitioned to a role in the Environmental Health Service of the Catalan Agency for Public Health, working on drinking water programs (implementation of EU directives, protocols for Water Health Plans, surveillance of Cryptosporidium in recreational waters, etc.) and developing a new program for the surveillance of health indicators in wastewater.
Since September 2024, I have been a lecturer in the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Biology, Microbiology Area, at the University of Girona (UdG).
