The association was created in Barcelona in 1992. The members of this association are scholarship holders, PHD students and members from the Language Faculties who are devoted to the study of language.

Following the articles of the AJL, our aims are:

 1. To foster the study and research on linguistics and stimulate communication and cooperation between young scholars in this discipline.

2. To promote the acknowledgement of linguistics as an autonomous discipline.

3. To cooperate in publishing current research papers and projects by means of scientific meetings, conferences, publications and other initiatives.

4. To enhance cultural exchange by encouraging linguistic research in different languages.

From 1992 onwards, the AJL has gathered in several universities in Spain in order to hold its conferences. These conferences have been based on the exposition of the members’ research and findings. At the end of the conference a general meeting is normally held where several matters regarding the association are discussed.

As in former conferences, papers are welcomed. Each paper will consist of the presentation of a research field for 20 minutes followed by a 10- minute discussion. If you are interested in presenting a paper the following advice could be useful:

 a) The papers should be as accessible and pedagogic as possible due to the heterogeneous audience expected. Please remember that there will be students that might not be familiar with your theoretical basis.

b) Speakers are recommended to avoid the overuse of examples as it prevents the general understanding of the exposition.

c) Literature references should be included not only in the oral exposition but also in the hand-out given to the audience.

d) Speakers should not forget that the amount of information given has to be proportional to the time (20 minutes).
