The act of “seeing” is inseparable from medical training. Physicians are constantly required to “look for” signs and symptoms from the human body, to describe what is being observed, and from what they see make diagnosis. The skills of observation, description and interpretation of visual information are inherent in the artistic creative process and art appreciation. By the examination of artworks, this course aims to improve the students’ visual literacy and attention to details, and to transfer these skills to the clinical setting. In addition, the students will be exposed to artistic depictions of disease manifestation in different social and historical backgrounds.
