Avaluació i qualificació

Activitats d'avaluació:

Descripció de l'activitat Avaluació de l'activitat %
Suggested classroom activities List of short questions and exercises to assess the contents of the lecture explained in the previous week.
The assessment for the Unit 6 (Applied Biophysics) includes a work done in groups of 4-5 people.

Final exam The final exam is used to evaluate the understanding of the contents related to all course units. 60

Qualificació

-CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT

The final qualification to pass the subject is 5.

The subject will be continuously assessed through the final exam, the mid-term test and the suggested classroom activities:

1) FINAL EXAM:

It represents a 60% of the final qualification.

A minimum score of 4 is required to obtain the weighted average score, which includes the final exam, the mid-term test and suggested classroom activities. This average will be the overall score of the subject.

If the student scores less than 4 on the final exam, he/she will not be able to count the continuous assessment (mid-term test and suggested classroom activities) as part of their final mark. In this case, the student will have to do the Basic Competences Exam (BCE).

The final exam has 40 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems. Each question will have five options, only one of which is correct. A penalty of 20% of its value will be deducted for each wrong question. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

The final exam will last 90 minutes.

In this exam the use of non-programmable calculator is permitted. No formula sheet will be allowed.

2) MID-TERM TEST:

It represents a 15% of the final qualification.

The mid-term test consists of two parts:

a) Multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems similar to those of the final exam. Each question will have five options, only one of which is correct. A penalty of 20% of its value will be deducted for each wrong question. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

b) Solving problems: They are similar to those done in the in-class activities (at roughly the same level). The students must show the steps or/and calculations needed to solve the problems.

The mid-term test will last 90 minutes.

In this exam the use of non-programmable calculator is permitted. No formula sheet will be allowed.

3) SUGGESTED CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:

It represents a 25 % of the final qualification.

They are in-class activities and they have to be delivered at the end of the class, except for the activity of the Unit 6 (Applied Biophysics) which consists of a group work. Guidelines of this activity will be uploaded to the Moodle and explained in class during the corresponding session.

There will be a total of 11 activities during the course: 10 in-class activities + 1 work group (Unit 6).

- In-class activities: List of questions and solving questions related to the lecture contents of the previous week.
- Group Work of the Unit 6: They will have a submission deadline, which will be posted on the course website (Moodle).

For in-class activities, the 8 best scores of every student will be selected. These 8 activities and the work group will be averaged altogether to obtain the overall score of the PBL activities (average over 9: 8 in-class activities + work group). The missed activities will count as a zero score. Only the activities delivered on time will be graded (this marking system encourages attendance).

No excused absences will be admitted for any of the activities.

The overall score of the activities held during the course (which represents the 25% of the final qualification) will be uploaded before the final exam.

Students can revise their activities scheduling an appointment by mail.

-BASIC COMPETENCES EXAM (BCE):

If the student fails the continuous assessment, he/she will have the opportunity of taking the Basic Competences Exam (BCE), which will be held the week after the revision.

It will have a similar format of the final exam and a minimum score of 5 is required to pass it.

The scores of the continuous assessment will be cancelled. As it is a Basic Competences Exam, if the student passes it, his/her final score will be computed as 5.

-STUDENTS WHO REPEAT THE SUBJECT:

If a student failed the subject last course and needs to repeat it, he/she can choose between two possible options to be assessed:

1) Students can try to attend as many suggested classroom activities as they can and also do the mid-semester test. In this case they will be continuously assessed. It means that the overall score of the course will be the weighted average obtained from the suggested classroom activities, the mid-term test and the final exam. Note that a minimum score of 4 on the final exam is required to obtain the weighted average score, which will be the overall score of the subject. Students will pass the subject if this overall score is equal to or higher than 5.

2) Students can skip all the suggested classroom activities and the mid-semester test and go directly to the final exam. In this case, they will not be continuously assessed, and it means that their overall score of the course will be only the final exam. Then, in this case, a minimum score of 5 on the final exam is required to pass the subject.

Students must choose the most suitable option and communicate their final decision sending an email to the professor DURING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
Student qualification will be considered as 'not seated' in the following cases:

1) Not evaluated through the continuous assessment.

2) Not evaluated through final assessment.

Students who have not delivered any assessment activity to the professor from October the 15th will be considered as not evaluated through the continuous assessment.

Observacions

The methodology of the subject is based on didactic units (DU).

Each DU will be related to some specific concepts, which will be first explained by the professor. After that, students will work with the concepts explained in the DUs through the suggested classroom activities.

Prior to every DU, the student will have to download the notes from the Moodle and read them carefully.
