2018

  • Aplicar pensament crític, lògic i creatiu, mostrant dots d'innovació.

Avaluació i qualificació

Activitats d'avaluació:

Descripció de l'activitat Avaluació de l'activitat %
Seminars The professor will give a list of short questions and exercises, which will have to be solved either individually or in groups of 4 people. The subject of the seminars will be related to the previous lectures. 15
Case studies Case studies will be done on the days of practical sessions, according to the schedule. Students will be divided in groups and will have to answer short questions regarding the case being studied.
15
Midterm exam Multiple choice questions about the lectures, practical lessons and seminars.
The midterm exam will consist of 20 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems. A penalty of 20% of its value will be deducted for each incorrect answer. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.
10
Final exam Multiple choice questions about the lectures, practical lessons and seminars.
The final exam will consist of 40 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems, including all contents given in the course. A penalty of 20% of its value will be deducted for each incorrect answer. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

Qualificació

The subject will be continuously assessed through seminars (15%), case studies (15%), a midterm exam (10%) and a final exam (60%).

1) SEMINARS:

There will be 4 seminars during the course (check the timetable available in February on the course). The professor will give a list of short questions and exercises, which will have to be solved either individually or in groups of 4 people. In the latter, students will discuss the exercises together and work as a team. The written activities must be delivered to the professor at the end of the seminar. The subject of the seminars will be related to the previous lectures and it will last approximately 60 minutes. The professor will support any group of students who ask for it.

If lectures last longer than expected and there is no time to do the seminar, students will solve the activity at home and they will deliver it to the professor in one week's time. The professor will post a message on the Moodle to inform the students about the seminar.

The written activities will averaged altogether to obtain the overall score of the seminars. If the student does not attend the seminars, it will result in a zero score for the missed activities. Only the activities handed over will be graded (this marking system encourages the attendance).

The revision of the activities will be done in class once the activity is over. If there is no time for the revision in class the answers will be uploaded to Moodle.

The overall score of the activities held during the seminars (which represents the 15% of the final qualification) will be uploaded before the final exam.

2) CASE STUDIES:

A total number of 3 case studies will be done on the days of practical sessions. Students will be divided in groups and will have to answer short questions regarding the case being studied.

The activities in the practical sessions will be averaged altogether to obtain the overall score of case studies. If the student does not attend the practical sessions it will result in a zero score for the missed activities. Only the activities delivered to the professor will count to make the average.

The overall score of the activities held during the practical sessions (which represents the 15% of the final qualification) will be uploaded before the final exam.

3) MIDTERM EXAM:

It represents 10% of the final qualification.

The midterm exam has 20 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems. Each question will have five possible answers, only one of which is correct. A penalty of 20% of its value will be deducted for each wrong question. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

4) FINAL EXAM:

It represents a 60% of the final qualification.

A minimum score of 4.5 is required to obtain the weighted average score, which includes the final exam, midterm exam, seminars and case studies. This average will be the overall score of the subject.

Students who score less than 5 on the final exam will not be able to count the continuous assessment (seminars, case studies and midterm exam) as part of their final mark. In this case they will have to sit the Basic Competences Exam (BCE).

The final exam has 40 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems. Each question will have five possible answers, only one of which is correct. A penalty of 20% of its value will be deducted for each incorrect answer. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

In this exam the use of non-programmable calculator is permitted. However, no formula sheet will be allowed. The exam will last approximately 90 minutes.

If the overall score of the subject less than 5 the student will fail the subject.

5) BASIC COMPETENCES EXAM:

Students who fail the subject will have the opportunity to sit the Basic Competences Exam (BCE). It will have a similar format of the final exam and a minimum score of 5 is required to pass it.
In this case, the scores of the continuous assessment (seminars, case studies and midterm exam) will be cancelled. As it is a Basic Competences Exam, students who pass it will have 5 as the overall grade in the subject.

- 3RD YEAR STUDENTS:

If a student failed the subject last course and needs to repeat it, he/she can choose between two possible options to be assessed:

1) Students can try to attend as many seminars and practical sessions as they can. They are also required to sit the midterm exam. In this case they will be continuously assessed. It means that the overall score of the course will be the weighted average obtained from seminars, case studies, midterm and final exam.

2) Students can skip all seminars, practical sessions and midterm exam, and only sit the final exam. In this case, they will not be continuously assessed, and it means that their overall score of the course will be only the final exam.

Students must choose the most suitable option and inform their final decision by sending an email to the professors.
