Marisa García Vergara, architect and architectural historian, is Serra Húnter Professor at Escola Politècnica Superior, Universitat de Girona, Spain. She teachs Theory and History of Art and Architecture since 2008.
She studied architecture at the Facultad de Arquitectura of Universidad de la República, in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 2006 she completed her doctorate on History and Theory of Architectural at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain. Her doctoral dissertation was “Georges Bataille y la parte del arte” (published by Memoria Aritum, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2013).
Since 1994 till 1997 she has taught in the Instituto de Historia de la Arquitectura (Institute of Architectural History) at University of Republic, Uruguay. From 1998 till 2001 she was pre-doctorate fellow at the Escola Técnica Superior de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and from 2001 till 2010 she has taught at the Master History, Art, Architecture and City, at Departament de Composició Arquitectònica, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. From 2002 till 2011 she was Professor of Art and Design History at Eina School of Art and Design, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Since 2007 till 2010 she has taught at ELISAVA School of Design, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain.
Her research projects are related to the history of modern architecture and relationships between art, design and urban culture. Recently her research projects are related to tourism and architecture.
Marisa García Vergara is author/coauthor or editor/co-editor of a number of publications on architectural issues. He is member of the editorial or advisory boards of the following research journals: “DC Papers”, He is co-editor of the book “Touristic Territories. Touristic imagery and the construction of contemporary landscape” (Viguera, 2014); “New Scenarios for the Touristic European Maritime Coast” (Documenta Universitaria, 2014)
