I obtained my PhD in Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona in May of 2015. My thesis project was focused on the secondary messenger (p)ppGpp and the protein factors that bind to the secondary channel of the RNA polymerase (DksA and GreA) in Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica. Between July of 2015 and July of 2021 I was a Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA) in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Cashel. During this time I studied the crosstalk between (p)ppGpp and acetyl-phosphate, the efects of ppGpp on growth rate control of DNA replication and we also found evidence that (p)ppGpp controls DNA topology by controlling the expression of the DNA gyrase. Since January of 2022, I’ve been working at the research group of Microbiology of Intestinal Diseases from the University of Girona, studying Adherent-Invasive of Escherichia coli (AIEC). Recently I was awarded a Beatriu de Pinós postdoctoral fellowship to study the role of (p)ppGpp in the pathogenicity of AIEC strains.
