General information

Academic year:
2025
Description:
This course presents the foundations and evolution of geopolitical theory and practice over more than a century. Associated with that, it considers the concept of security and its expressions in international relations, institutions and specific conflicts. This is followed by the core content, beginning with the World Economic Forum's definition of 'global risks': environmental change, access to food and water, access to raw materials, pandemics, cyber insecurity, state failure, population displacement, etc. These risks, which raise questions about security (who poses them and who they threaten) are discussed from a critical perspective. Case studies are used to analyse how they manifest themselves geopolitically.
