2. CASE STUDIES (Medium-size Groups)
2.1. Manipulation, identification and counting viruses at the lab
2.2. Commentary and presentation of scientific research papers
3. LABORATORY EXERCISES (Small-size Groups)
3.1. One Step Growth cycle: kinetics of phage infection and host dynamics
Evaluation is carried out through three main activities: a lab report, preparation of case seminars and a final exam. It is mandatory to attend laboratory exercises during the scheduled period to pass the course.
The final mark results from the addition of specific contributions of the different activities, as follows:
LAB REPORT (LR): This activity consists in answering several questions related to experimental results obtained during lab exercises (Small-size Groups). The mark obtained in this activity contributes 15% to the final mark of the course. This activity can not be resit.
CASE STUDIES (CS): This activity consist in the preparation of an oral presentation focused on a previously selected scientific research paper. This activity contributes a 35% to the final mark. This activity can not be resit.
EXAM (EX): This exam will include questions referring to the theoretical content of the course (Large-size Groups) as well as to the study cases presented (Medium-size Groups). The mark of this exam must be equal to or higher than 4 to contribute a 50% to the final mark of the course. Students that get marks below 4 must resit the exam.
The final mark of the course results from the sum of individual contributions of each evaluation activity, that is: 15% LR + 35% CS + 50% EX. To pass the course the student should get a mark equal to or higher than 5.
RESIT ACTIVITIES: Those students that get a final mark <5 (or <4 in the Exam) can only resit the exam. This second exam will have the same evaluation criteria and conditions set for the first one and it will be scheduled during the resit examination period.
Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
To pass the course, students have to:
a) To attend practical sessions (Lab exercises).
b) To submitt the Lab Report in due time.
c) To present the Case Study.
d) To complete the Exam.
Students that do not attend practical sessions and do not submitt any of the evaluation activities will be considered as NON-PRESENTED.
