MIRS and IFRoS Students Experience High-End Automation at TAVIL The MIRS (Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems), in a joint activity with the Erasmus Mundus master in Intelligent Field Robotic Systems (IFRoS), cohort visited the headquarters of the global automation leader in Girona to witness the real-world application of Computer Vision, AGVs, and Digital Twins, bridging the gap between academic theory and industrial reality. 09 de desembre 2025 Societat
Last December 3rd, students from the Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems (MIRS) participated in a technical visit to TAVIL’s headquarters in Sant Jaume de Llierca (Girona). The visit provided a unique opportunity to see how the concepts studied at the University of Girona are implemented in a high-performance industrial environment.TAVIL, a global reference in end-of-line packaging and palletizing with over 100 years of history, opened its 102,000 m² facility to our students. During the tour, the cohort analyzed key technologies that define the current state of Industry 4.0:Advanced Robotics: Students observed the integration of diverse robotic arms (ABB, Kuka, Universal Robots) and high-speed Delta robots working in synchronized tasks.Autonomous Logistics: The visit highlighted the use of heavy-duty AGVs (1000kg payload) navigating autonomously via Dual LIDAR and magnetic guidance systems.Computer Vision: Attendees saw how 3D vision systems perform real-time quality control, using pixel analysis to detect product misalignments instantly. This visit was organized jointly with the Erasmus Mundus Master in Intelligent Field Robotic Systems (IFRoS). Sharing these experiences allows MIRS students to collaborate and network with a highly international cohort of scholars, enriching their academic journey and fostering a global perspective on robotics engineering.Visits like this are a fundamental part of the MIRS curriculum, helping students visualize their future roles as leaders in the robotics industry.
