From 13th to 16th April, the La Mercè Cultural Centre in Girona hosted the Girona Seminar 2026, an academic and scientific meeting that has been organised biennially since 1993 by the Institute of Computational Chemistry and Catalysis (IQCC). The event brought together researchers specialising in the chemistry of cyclic compounds, their synthesis, and their applications, which is one of the key research areas of the institute. Throughout the different sessions, the most recent advances in this field were presented by leading researchers from across Spain and Europe. The session held on Monday 13th April was specifically noteworthy as it was dedicated to early-career researchers, who demonstrated a high scientific level. The day concluded with a roundtable discussion featuring professionals from the industrial sector, who shared their perspectives on future career opportunities for PhD students. On 14th, 15th, and 16th April, the programme was structured around six plenary lectures, eleven keynote talks, and several contributed oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts. Three awards were presented during the closing session for the best oral presentations, consisting of book vouchers provided by various scientific publishers. In addition to fostering scientific exchange and dialogue among researchers, the meeting also aimed to bring research closer to the local community, reinforcing the role of Girona as a hub for scientific and outreach activities. With strong attendance and positive feedback, the Girona Seminar, which has the intention of continuing in future edition, further consolidates itself as a key event in the academic calendar.Girona, April 20th, 2026For more info: ges.iqcc@udg.edu
