On 29 October 2026, Prof. Luigi Cavallo, from the University of Salerno and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), received the González-Ciamician Award 2026 during a ceremony held at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Girona (UdG). This award recognizes his outstanding scientific contributions. The distinction was conferred by Dr. Albert Poater and Prof. Miquel Solà of the Institute of Computational Chemistry and Catalysis (IQCC).Prof. Cavallo’s research focuses on the study of reaction mechanisms in catalytic processes and the development of innovative computational methods capable of simulating chemical systems with a high degree of fidelity to experimental conditions. Internationally recognized as one of the leading figures in computational catalysis, he has made seminal contributions to the molecular understanding of catalytic mechanisms involved in olefin polymerization, metathesis, and photoredox chemistry.Following the award ceremony, Prof. Cavallo delivered a lecture entitled “Using Data Science to Rationalize and Design Catalysis from Small Experimental Data Sets.” As part of his academic visit to Spain, he also presented the same lecture at the University of Zaragoza on 30 October and at the University of Barcelona on 31 October.
