«SOLIPLANT is a multidisciplinary group whose main objective is to establish how the different factors of global change affect the functioning of terrestrial Mediterranean plants and ecosystems. Basically, the studies performed are focused on four research lines. The first refers to the study of the effects that an increase in UV radiation and drought may have on the functioning of Mediterranean shrubland communities and on the ecophysiology of different woody species, taking into account the plant-soil interaction. In the second line, the regeneration of Mediterranean plants after a disturbance, such as a fire, is analysed. In the framework of the third line, the effects of the use, change of use and abandonment of land on different parameters of soil quality (especially carbon sequestration capacity) are analysed. And finally, the fourth line consists on the study of the carbon balance of coastal marshes taking into account the vegetal communities and the soil.»
