Students may opt to follow a final assessment (one final exam) or a continuous assessment system (work and tests at specified times during the academic year). If the final result of the Continuous Assessment is below 5 (the passing mark) students will take the final annual exam (listening, reading, written & oral) in the official calendar date of “convocatòria extraordinària” established by the University (June or July). Students coursing two or more simultaneous subjects may have difficulties to opt for the continuous assessment of the subjects in question. ***IF A STUDENT MISSES MORE THAN 50% OF THE TESTS CARRIED OUT IN THE CONTINUOUS EVALUATION SYSTEM (TESTS, SKILLS TESTS, ETC.) HE OR SHE WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE CONSIDERED A FINAL EVALUATION STUDENT*** There are four Skills tests consisting of specific parts of the Cambridge exam (readings, listenings, writings and use of English) and corrected according to Cambridge criteria. All of them are previously announced in class. Tests 1, 2, 3 and 4 are all of them about the grammar and vocabulary of the units studied in class. The January and June exams are writings on the articles provided in each unit whose links are always to be found on Moodle. There are also two Speaking Tests, based on specific parts of the Cambridge Speaking exam and graded according to Cambridge scales. Students will be provided with some further instructions on the subject. Students are advised against plagiarism. Any detected and proved case of plagiarism will automatically be marked as a “0” (zero). Students following the continuous assessment can miss 3 exams with no need of justification, except January and May/June/July exams where only a medical or work justification will be needed and accepted. Under no circumstances can any of the speaking tests, skills tests and tests be taken on a different date; however, this will not affect the student's mark. It is important to note that skills tests and tests may take place the same day although they are different exams and are evaluated independently. If a student misses a day in which there is a skills test and a test, s/he will miss two exams. At the beginning of the course students will be provided with some further guidelines on the subject. Students missing more than 50% of the continuous evaluation tests will be considered final evaluation students.
