General information

Academic year:
2026
Description:
The current information age requires the ability to communicate and present data effectively in all professional fields. For example, visually coding numerical data, synthesizing complex qualitative information and representing geospatial data on maps are all essential skills for effective communication. This course reflects on how the medium and the choices made to represent data make it easier or more difficult to read and interpret data, and on the practical implications that may result from them.

Grading

Final mark (based on a weighted average of all evaluation tasks) of minimum 5/10.

Verification of authorship: In cases where teaching staff have doubts about the authorship of any assessment task, the student may be summoned to attend an in-person or synchronous interview, which may be recorded, with the aim of verifying the student’s knowledge and skills and ensuring the authorship of the assessment tasks. If it is not possible to guarantee that the student is the author of the task, it will receive a negative mark.

Specific criteria for the "No show" grade:
Students who do not submit any assessment task or the course portfolio will receive a Not Presented (NP) grade.

Single Assessment:
Final mark based on the porfolio tasks (80%) and oral presentation of it (20%).

Minimum requirements to pass:
To pass the course, students must obtain a final grade of at least 5/10.

Mentorship

In-person or online meetings can be arranged through direct email to the teacher of the subject.
