Qualificació
The English language courses at the UdG’s Faculty of Tourism are based on the following system of Continuous Assessment:
ATTENDANCE & WORK IN PROGRESS 35%: Students are awarded 15% of their final mark by coming to all class sessions, 20% for completing the work assigned in and out of the classroom. Daily assignments given throughout the semester correspond to units from the course book and the Tourism Modules found on the Moodle. Examples of work to be done include readings, writings, oral presentations, individual and group activities, videos with follow-up activities, sporadic quizzes on the 5 skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Use of English (Vocabulary & Grammar) and class debates.
EVALUATED TASKS 65%: In addition to work done in and out of class, students are awarded 65% of their final mark by taking a series of evaluated tests/activities:
5.0%: Speaking Activity (Oral Test, Oral Presentation or Oral Project)
5.0%: Oral Presentation
2.5%: Grammar & Vocabulary Test 1
2.5%: In-class Writing Test
10%: Reading Test
10%: Listening Test
10%: In-class Oral Test
10%: Writing Test
10%: Grammar & Vocabulary Test
Students must pass each of the 5 skills with a minimum mark of 5/10.
Students can retake parts or all of the exam which they have failed at the scheduled Examen de recuperació (see the syllabus for exact times and dates) in order to reattempt to pass the course.
Continued Assessment is calculated by ATTENDANCE & WORK IN PROGRESS 35% + EVALUATED TESTS/ACTIVITIES 65% = 100%. Therefore:
Any student whose Continuous Assessment mark does not reach 50% out of 100% due to low attendance and/or work not done fails the course and must take the 5-part Resit Exam (Examen de Recuperació) to reattempt to pass the course.
In the event a student fails one or more skills, the highest possible mark given will be a 4/10.
Fraudulent Conduct
Any action intended to gain an unfair advantage in an assessment activity will be considered fraudulent conduct, including:
- Copying, in whole or in part, of coursework or examinations.
- Plagiarising texts, ideas, data or materials without proper citation.
- The use or possession of unauthorised devices or materials during assessments.
- Receiving unauthorised help from third parties.
- Impersonation or any other act that compromises academic integrity.
In accordance with the UdG regulations, fraudulent conduct will result in a failing (0) grade for the assessment in question, without prejudice to any possible disciplinary action that may be taken.
Verification of authorship
In cases where the teaching staff have doubts about the authorship of any assessment, the student may be summoned for a face-to-face or synchronous interview (which may be recorded), with the aim of verifying the student's knowledge and skills and ensuring the authenticity of the assessment. If it is not possible to guarantee that the student is the author of the test, it will be marked as failed.
Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
Students who have done neither Continuous Evaluation nor the single-sesssion evaluation will receive the mark "No presentat".
Avaluació única:
Students granted Avaluació Única by the Faculty of Tourism will be evaluated through a 5-part exam calculated as follows:
20% -Reading Test (2-3 Readings)
20% -Listening Test (3 Listenings)
20% -Writing Test (1-2 Writings)
20% -Oral Exam (4-part/9-minute individual test)
20% -Grammar & Vocabulary Test (taken from coursebook)
Students must pass each of the 5 skills areas with a minimum mark of 5/10. Any student who fails one or more parts of the Avaluació Única Test can retake the failed part(s) in the Examen de Recuperació to reattempt to pass the course. In the event a student fails one or more skills, after averaging, the highest possible mark given will be a 4/10.
Students are advised to check the Syllabus on the Moodle for the exact dates and times in which the 5-part exam will be held. Students can retake parts of the exam which they have failed at the scheduled Examen de recuperació (see the syllabus for exact times and dates).
Requisits mínims per aprovar:
To pass the course, the student needs to pass EACH of the five skills (Reading, Writing, Use of English (Vocabulary & Grammar), Listening and Speaking tasks with a 5/10. These skills scores correspond to 65% of the mark while Attendance accounts for 15% of the mark and Work in/out of the classroom accounts for the remaining 20% for a total of 100%.
