Description:
- Globalisation is a contested phenomenon with opinions divided as to whether it has positive -in terms of equal integration of individual societies into worldwide political, economic and cultural processes - or negative consequences -mostly in terms of accentuated uneven economic development together with cultural imperialism and ongoing colonialism-. This course assesses the complex process of globalisation by mostly exploring its political dimension from an interdisciplinary approach. Critically examining the impacts of globalisation on economic development, gender relations, the environment, citizenship and the human rights regime, we will explore the role of individuals, states, international economic organisations, and non-state actors as well as the resistance movements against it -counter-hegemonic globalisation or globalisation from below.

Grading
a) Active participation in the discussions held during the seven sessions of the course (20%)
b) Critical Summary and oral presentation of one of the compulsory readings, in groups (40%)
c) Essay* on a topic of your own choosing related to the course and the corresponding peer review activity (40%)
* Presenting a work as one's own when it has actually been generated by AI undermines the principle of academic integrity. Using artificial intelligence to generate essays will be considered as plagiarism since the work submitted is not original to the student and will result in a failing grade.
Specific criteria for the "No show" grade:
Students who do not submit either of the two activities will be graded as "not attended".
Single Assessment:
For those who fail to attend classes (students must attend a minimum of 5 sessions in order to to be graded through the continuous assessment system), evaluation will consist of:
1. An exam (60%)
2. Critical summaries of five of the compulsory readings (40%)
Minimum requirements to pass:
- The continuous assessment system will only be available for students that have attended -and actively participated- in at least 5 of the 7 sessions of the course.
- Students must pass evaluation activities with a minimum grade of 5.
Mentorship
Academic tutoring is performed online on-demand. Students will contact professors by email.
Communication and interaction with students
General communications are via Moodle Forum or email.

Amendment of activities:
En cas que no fos possible fer totes les sessions de forma presencial, aquestes s'adaptarien virtualment en formats dinàmics que combinin classe teòrica, treball en grup i activitats individuals.
Amendment of the assessment:
En cas que no fos possible fer totes les sessions de forma presencial, l'avaluació no es modificarà. L'únic canvi serà que l'assistència i participació (20%) s'avaluarà en base a l'assistència a les classes online en l'horari de l'assignatura i els treballs pràctics guiats a realitzar durant la mateixa.
