1. Measuring and quantification in Ecology. Studies in ecosystems, working scale, sampling design, experimental design, field sampling design. Examples.
2. Examples of studies in Ecology. Experimental work in the laboratory, design, defining objectives and hypothesis, development, monitoring, analysis, data collection, data treatment, discussion of results and writing. A specific experiment related to aquatic ecosystems will be performed investigating different anthropic impacts on its functioning.
3. Examples of studies in Ecology. Example of a field work: sampling design, defining objectives and hypothesis, field sampling, data analysis, application of a model, discussion of the data, comparison between different research approaches. Practical analysis of organic matter decomposition experiments and application of decomposing models in different conditions.
Attendance to ALL the sessions is compulsory. To pass the course, you must have participated in a percentage greater than 80% of the scheduled hours. Non-attendance (up to 20%) will result in a penalty in the final mark.
The final mark of the subject will be calculated as follows:
50% exam
30% scientific writing
15% scientific communication
5% attendance and participation in the practicum
It is compulsory to do all evaluation activities. To pass the subject it is necessary to pass the exam and the scientific writing.

The qualification of NP ("no presentat", not attending) will be acquired when none of the activities is done.
Avaluació única:
Students that exceptionally follow the single evaluation (after required to the academic secretary), will have to do a single exam that will include concepts and learnings from all theoretical and practical lessons.

The minimum mark to pass the subject is 5.0.
