I have been a postdoctoral researcher with the LEQUIA research group at the University of Girona (UdG, Spain) since 2013. Nowadays, I am a researcher and an assistant professor at the UdG. My endeavours have been focused on the application and use of artificial intelligence techniques, such as environmental decision support systems (EDSS) and control algorithms, to control and optimize wastewater and drinking water treatment processes to properly address technological, health, environmental and economic issues. My scientific production encompasses one book, one chapter book, more than 50 conference presentations, one patent, one trade mark and 47 journal publications. Of the journals I have published in, 70% are in the first Q. Jointly, these publications have been cited more than 1100 times, leading to an H-index of 17 (WoS). In the last three years, my average citation count has been 104 citations a year. I was awarded a cum laude PhD in 2011 from the UdG for the “Development of a EDSS for the integrated control of membrane bioreactors”; a compendium of seven journal articles and international doctorate. I was also awarded the UdG Extraordinary Doctorate Award in Industrial Engineering. My curriculum also showcases my mobility both internationally (seven months at Cranfield University (UK) and 12 months in the French company Polymem) and nationally (22 months with the private company GS Inima Environment) and my research is strongly balanced between academia and business institutions with my participation in different national and international projects and with my contracts signed as Principal Investigator (PI) with different private companies (TELWESA, Anxoves de l’Escala, Polymem, ATL, CWP, FISERSA). In 2011, upon completing my PhD, I joined GS Inima Environment S.A. as a postdoctoral researcher. At the end of 2013 and to consolidate my scientific career, I joined the UdG as an associate professor (where I taught 50 ECTS since September 2013). In 2015 I was granted a Marie Curie COFUND fellowship and spent the first year at the facilities of the membrane manufacturer Polymem (France). In this period (2015-2017) I signed three technology research contracts as PI with private companies. In July 2017, within my Juan de la Cierva incorporation fellowship, I signed as PI a 3-year research contract with ATL (DrinkIA Project) that recently in recognition of my leading role in this project, I was awarded the prestigious Award to Young Talent Applied to Sustainable Water Management. I am involved in three competitive projects (WATSON project funded by MINECO’s Retos program (Co-PI) and the EdiCitiNet (Local PI) and ELECTRA projects funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme). I am an experienced university lecturer having taught 50 ECTS since September 2013 and I have been accredited with the "RESEARCH certification". I supervised 3 PhD thesis (I am supervising 3 more) and >20 final projects (degree and master).
