Bachelor studies in Biology, a Master in Neuroscience and a PhD doctorate by Universitat de Girona (2015). Dr. Carreras-Badosa obtained post-doctorate (CD19/00172, Sara Borrell, ISCIII) and a pre-doctorate (pFIS, ISCIII) competitive fellowships, and is a lecturer / associate professor since June 2025.
Over her career, her lines of research have focused on studying microRNA expression, miRNA delivery (as therapeutics), gene expression and inflammatory markers in relation to: (1) allergic processes, (2) metabolism, and (3) neurobiology.
From all the mentioned lines of research, has obtained financed competitive projects: 2 projects as Principal Investigator (MOBJD526, 2019-2020; MOBJD106, 2017-2019); and participated as associate researcher in 4 international projects (SPIOMET4HEALTH 899671-2 H2020, 2021-2025; SMVBS18546, 2019; PUT1669, 2017-2020; ITEA 2-ip11027, 2012-2015) and 8 national projects.
Dr. Carreras-Badosa is involved in the project/s:
- PID2023-147416OB-I00 (2024-2028): Biomarcadores pronóstico en enfermedad de Alzheimer en relación a diferentes dominios cognitivos. MiRNAs y estimulación eléctrica como herramientas terapéuticas (MCIU), granted to Dr. Elisabet Kádár and Dr. Gemma Huguet (Universitat de Girona).
Dr. Carreras-Badosa has 64 publications in high-impact journals (first authored 17, and co-authored 47 more scientific publications), with a total of up to 983 citations and an accumulated H index of 18 (as for April 2026). Results have been also disseminated in scientific meetings for a total of over 80 meeting contributions.
Dr. Carreras-Badosa has also participated in other divulgation activities to society, such as scientific workshops aimed to schoolers and high-schoolers (2017, 2021) and a video series of “Women in Science” aimed to the general public (2023).
Her scientific and technical skills acquired over her research career include: DNA techniques, RNA and microRNA techniques [real-time qPCR, Taqman low-density arrays (TLDA), GeneChip microarrays], protein measurements, cell cultures (in vitro studies), nanoparticle for cellular delivery of small RNAs (nanotechnology), Histological techniques, microscopy (light, fluorescent, confocal and electronic microscopy), and animal experimentation (in vivo models). Also management of clinical data, biological sampling, creation, maintenance and curation of data bases and statistical analyses.
Dr. Carreras-Badosa established international collaborations during her international post-doctorate stay at Tartu University in Estonia (2017-2020). Dr. Carreras-Badosa has been an active junior member of the International Committee of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (2018-2020), an editorial board member of Frontiers in Allergy, Switzerland (2020-present), a member of Societat Catalana de Biologia (2025-present) and a member of l'Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques de Catalunya (2025-present). She has also participated in scientific-technical evaluation as an invited reviewer for high-impact journals from 2017 to the present.
Over her career, Dr. Carreras-Badosa has contributed to the training and mentoring of young researchers within the research groups, as well as has supervised (formal supervision) bachelor students (UdG, 2025 and 26), master students (UdG, 2020, 21, 24 and 26).
