Descripció:
Anglès Avançat 1 és la primera de les dues assignatures (B2.1 + B2.2) de nivell B2 segons el marc europeu comú de referència per a les llengües (MECR). Mitjançant l'aprenentatge basat en tasques, aquest curs té com a objectiu fer una introducció al llenguatge específic del sector turístic i donar eines a l’alumne per millorar les seves habilitats comunicatives, tan necessàries en aquest sector.

Continguts

1. TRANSPORT AND TRAVEL SERVICES. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of transport and travel to, from and around tourist destinations. Students explore on-line transport websites in real time to gain knowledge of and reflect upon the diversity available for today's traveller, worker and entrepreneur.

2. HOTEL & ACCOMMODATION SERVICES. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of accommodation services from the perspectives of client, worker and entrepreneur. Students explore on-line websites to gain knowledge of and reflect upon the diversity available for today's traveller, worker and entrepreneur.

3. GASTRONOMY & FOOD SERVICES. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of gastronomy. Students explore local and international cuisine and food establishments while considering entrepreneurship and the roles of client, worker and entrepreneur.

4. CREATING HOLIDAYS. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of holiday destinations in today's world of high technology. Students explore and create package holidays based on market segments and trends while considering the roles of client, worker and entrepreneur.

5. CUSTOMER SERVICE. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of customer service. Students explore local and international business customs through video and text while considering tourism-specific service industry relationships and professionalism at the workplace.

6. VOLUNTOURISM.Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of voluntourism. Students explore positive and negative aspects of this area in order to gain knowledge, awareness and debating skills regarding this worldwide tourism trend.

Avaluació i qualificació

Attendance during class hours Students are expected to actively participate in all class sessions (90 hours) doing a variety of activities either individually, in pairs,in small groups or with the entire class as a whole. 10 No
Out of Class Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking prep Activities Out of classroom activities include but are not limited to: reading weekly articles from the Textbook/Workbook (LIFE Units 1-6) and the press; weekly writings based on a variety of sources including in-class activities; individual and group written or oral projects based on research via written or audiovisual sources and similar, all of which will be taken into account for the student's overall mark. 10 No
Listening Tests Students will take 2 listening comprehension tests throughout the semester in order to evaluate their receptive skills. These skills can be tested through activities requiring matching, gap-fill, multiple-choice, etc. Test dates are stated on the syllabus. 20
Writing Tests Students will take 2 writing tests during the semester. Both short and longer writing tasks will be evaluated based on the criteria for the B2.1 level as adapted from the CEFR and focusing on the impression, register, task achievemnet, cohesion, fluency, organization, and the language accuracy as found in the Assessment Criteria in the Moodle. Test dates are stated on the syllabus. 20
Reading Tests Students will take 2 reading comprehension tests throughout the semester in order to evaluate their skills in this area. These reading activities will require matching, multiple choice, synthesizing of ideas, True/False, decision-making, etc. with criteria based on the B2.1 level as adapted from the CEFR. Tests dates are stated on the syllabus. 20
Oral Presentations Students will give 3 Oral presentations during the course evaluated in accordance with the criteria for the B2.1 level as adapted from the CEFR and focusing on the delivery, the content and the language accuracy as found in the Assessment Criteria in the Moodle. The dates for these presentations are on the syllabus. 20

Qualificació

Students receive their course mark through a system of Continuous Evaluation which assigns the following weight to each of the required activities:

Area 1- 20% 2 Writing Tests
Area 2- 20% 2 Reading Tests
Area 3- 20% 2 Listening Tests
Area 4- 20% 3 Oral Presentations

10% Attendance: Only students who come to a minimum of 80% of classes will be given their ration of this 10%.*

10% Participation In & Out of the classroom: Only students who come to a minimum of 80% of classes will be given their ratio of this 10% which includes work done both in the classroom and as homework.*

*Students who do not attend the 80% minimum classes do not qualify for the additional 10% Attendance ratio nor the 10% Participation ratio which means their final mark is calculated by their test performances and oral presentations only.

STUDENTS MUST ACHIEVE A MINIMUM OF 5/10 IN ALL 4 AREAS AND AN OVERALL MINIMUM MARK OF 50% OUT OF 100% TO PASS THE COURSE.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
Students who have done neither Continuous Evaluation nor the single-sesssion evaluation will receive the mark "No presentat".


Avaluació única:
Exceptionally and at the individual student's request within the UdG's established timeline, students can request to do a single-session evaluation which consists in a 4-part, 3-hour exam evaluating student competence in Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Writing Competency and Speaking Competency. With each skill weighing 25%, students are required to pass each area of competence with a score of 5 out of 10 and an overall total of 50% of the exam points. Here is the breakdown of the points of the Single-session Evaluation:

Single-session Evaluation: 100 points:
Writing 25 points (2 Writings)
Speaking 25 points (9-minute individual)
Listening 25 points (2-3 Listenings)
Reading 25 points (2-3 Readings)

Requisits mínims per aprovar:
Per considerar superada l’assignatura, caldrà obtenir una qualificació mínima de 5.0

Students may request tutorials at any time during the course. These requests should be made through the instructor's official UdG email address. In addition, the instructor will invite students to tutorials during the course to discuss thier progress.

Observacions

Per cursar aquesta assignatura l'alumne hauria haver consolidat prèviament el nivell B1 d'anglès. S'espera assistència amb regularitat (100%) donat que les classes són participatives i que el temari s’avança diàriament.

Students should have a solid B1 level of English to register for this course. Regular class attendance (100%) is expected as classes involve active participation and subject matter is cumulative.
