Final exam The final exam will assess the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. 40
Short essay
The short essay is based on the collection and commentary of statistical data on on the levels of poverty and deprivation as well as the mechanisms of social protection in Europe. There will be an introductory session class for the short essay, focusing on the databases to be used to write the essay. The small essays will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people.

Qualificació

The course runs on a system of continuous assessment. Students must make three classroom text commentaries, one small essay and a final exam.

The final exam is worth 40% of the grade for the course, every classroom text commentary/control is worth 10% of the grade for the course and the small essay is worth the remaining 20%.

The final exam will assess the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject.

The classroom commentaries/controls will consist of answering some basic questions that will have to do with each compulsory reading text. Please read carefully the reference list (bibliografía básica).

The small essay is based on the collection and commentary of statistical data on on the levels of poverty and deprivation as well as the mechanisms of social protection in Europe. There will be an introductory session class for the short essay, focusing on the databases to be used to write the essay. The small essays will be made in groups of 2 or 3 people.

There is no pass mark for any of the assessment items (final exam, small essays and text commentary), but the student must get a minimum of 5 out of 10 to pass the course.

If the student does not pass the course or cannot continue with the continuous assessment system, they are entitled to do a re-sit exam. This exam will include all course material (theory, practice and readings). The exam will be worth 100% of the mark of the subject. Students who pass the course will not be able to improve his/her grade in the re-sit exam. The grade of the re-sit exam will be either five if the student passes the re-sit exam, or the mark obtained in the continuous assessment system if the student does not pass (fails) the re-sit exam.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
The "Not presented" grade involves only having participated in elements contained in the assessment criteria that totaled less than 50% of the total weight of the subject.

Given the topics analyzed in the course, the economic crisis and its effects on the welfare of households, the list of references provided is only an approximation of the readings that will be used during the course.

The list of compulsory readings will be published at the beginning of the classes.
